5.3 with Summit 8718 Stg1 cam
Decided to do an AFM delete on a 2008 Chev 1500 4WD pickup. This is a non-VVT engine. I got the smallest towing stage 1 summit cam to keep maximum drivability and mileage.
Stage 1 SUM-8718R1 Pro LS Drop-in Truck Swap Cam, Maximum Torque for Towing and Efficiency, 205/217 112+2, .500 /.500
I did change the lifter springs to the Summit LS6 and bought the Summit AFM delete kit that comes with lifters, gaskets and valley cover.
I had it dynoed stock at 231.5 rwhp. Did the cam swap and two days later dyno tested again at the same shop. They used HPTuners for the AFM delete and some minor tuning tweaks.
New RWHP 265! That's 33 hp more with a tiny cam. Peak power remained at 5300 rpm and the Summit cam carried that horsepower all the way to our 6K cutoff. HP looked dead flat from 5200-6000 rpm.

Congrats, nice gains for a small camshaft. Did they give you the graphs? It'd be nice to see the curve differences if they're available.

Yes! Forget about the 33hp number…look at the under the curve improvement. I bet it feels like 100 more hp and torque around town. Good for you man!

There are more and more of these hitting the market in the last few years, one reason being they are practically invisible to smog checkers. They sniff clean and don't lope to any real degree.

I have the summit 8719 high lift in a 5.3 going in a 78 vette. I hope I get a bit more from it than this but those numbers will make this street car much more fun to drive. Nice job! You never see dyno graphs of the tiny cams

Looking at the results after these couple months. If you are now "in need of a little more", bumping that rev limiter to 6500 would add a lot to the average horsepower curve. The springs and cam will be happy there.

You are making some assumptions there that you can't know for sure. He may have already had a CAI. He may have already had a tune or had a better tuned factory car. What is known is that increased area under the curve is significant for zero compromise in driveability or MPG, plus deleting the AFM/DoD will actually improve longevity. This is a real-world win with no compromises.

This is run on 87 octane. It's a 5.3 truck engine, so I really don't believe in big gains from just a tune. This is the baby little cam, so I wouldn't expect big top end gains either. This was purely done on a budget with the main goal of reliability. This is truly a work truck. It's a parts runner for a business. I hand the keys to employees daily to run around town in and sometimes road trips to attend training seminars.

I wish the term "baby cam" would go away.
It's like something you use until you "grow" into a "grown-up" cam to keep the dick measuring contest alive.
We don't all need chop or lope. That's an intermittent miss that most don't miss.

I've never really paid attention to folks call them that. Ya, that's childish in opinion as well.
If that's a baby cam, then the factory cams must be toddler cams with training wheels.
If anything, often it's the kids the ones that "need" the chop/lope. I'm generalizing, of course.
