Default Highest dyno numbers through JBA's ?

I just got my car back from superior automotive in anaheim ca and it dynoed 416/403 and they only took it up to 5800 rpms! My mods are in the sig and I will be posting the graph shortly. This was through full exhaust with the cutout closed! The cam is a 222/224 with lift around .610 with 10:5:1 compression. My pistons had to be notched. I know these are some kick *** numbers especially for a partial dyno pull. I would think with the cutout open and a full run up to 6500 it would make somewhere around 425-430 rwhp with shorties. Any one else put out this kind of power with shorties? I know I have more torque than guys with lt headers.

Nice results. Do you have the cam card for the cam or know all of its specs and what lobes these were? I am going the shorty route and hoping to get over 400 when I have all the mods too.

those are awesome numbers for JBA's!

I dynoed 373rwhp/363rwtq with JBA's, bolt-ons and a 221/221 MTI B1 cam, stock heads.

They did not give me a cam card. I will ask for better specs this coming week. All they told me was the cam was ground to match the ported heads. They said it was 224/228 with .589 lift with a 1:7 rocker and I am using 1:75 comp pro magnums which I think puts it around .610 and they never even mentioned the lobe separation, but they said it will pass smog which I would guess it is on a 114. It does have some good lope to it though at idle which is 800 rpms. They car runs very strong with great torque even below 2000 rpms. If you are in so cal I would highly recommend superior automotive in anaheim they are one of the best in so cal another great shop is race-prep which is near palm springs I think they make some serious ls1/6's. Stay tuned for the 5800 rpms pull on the dyno I will post it later this week.

Default My JBA Dyno Numbers

Well, my numbers are posted and they're not good at all up top >see my sig< . The guy who dyno-tuned the vehicle told me that my restriction was the shorty's and, of course, he was right, however, the biggest problem is the RT Y-pipe with the 'high-flow' cats. I think I'm going to get some 3" pipe sections and have them welded in the place of the cats ... see what that will net me.

As for the low-end torque, there's plenty. I'm extemely pleased with it. With my gears and cam, this thing ought to be putting down more up at mid-top range, though. Maybe I'll get a ported throttle body, as well.

Anyone care to comment on what is THE one most economical thing that can be done to make more power for our shorty header cars?

I'm not too sure about the RT y pipe, but I am sure if you lose the cats you will pick up some power. I love my exhaust setup with the mufflex test pipes and the slp or even better lg y pipe you can run cats whenever you have a smog test and then take them off and bolt in the mufflex test pipes it real easy just four bolts. I would do what you are planning on doing just weld in some 3" straight pipes and you should pick up 10 rwhp.

I would get an ls6 intake since you have a 99 and you will pick up another 10 rwhp to boot.

they notched my pistons with the lift I am at right now. It wasn't that much labor since they had all the right equipment and the heads were already off. My heads are milled also so that is why they notched the pistons.

My mods are in my sig. Dyno was 343 rwhp with cut out capped and another 15rwhp uncapped. I'm currently looking at patriot performance stage 2 heads, to gain another 40-50 rwhp hopefully

I finally got another dyno pull in and the car peaked at 5800? The power started to fall of pretty fast after 5800? No valve float as I am running comp duals that are brand new. I think it might be the restrictive JBA's and high rpm does not match? Even though I am really happy with the power output the way it is can't complain about 416/403 and still pass the sniffer here in Ca. I am going to replace my TR ported TB with the new Shaner billet Tb coming out here in a couple of days and may pick up a couple more poney's.

Yeah .... like JRP told me to not go with shorties. I should have listened to JRP, but, I was a newb and didn't know better ... expensive lesson. I have no requirement for testing here in Florida, but, my initial goal was to stay 50-state/C.A.R.B. legal. That was cool until I would literally smoke abut everything I raced until I would hit topend of 3rd gear. That's where I could see the difference. I would always seem to 'get caught' bt the other car ... 3.73 rearend gear coupled with the shorties was the issue.

Since mine is a '99, I did seem to feel a lot better power over the shitty-flowing '99 headers. I loved my shorties down low ... great lowend torque It's up top where I wished I had not went with the shorties. The sacrifice in HP wasn't worth the lowend torque gains in the long run ... that said, I still loved my shorties around town.
