Default Am I low on power???

I always thought my ls1 was pretty stout(headers, ory, catback), but today I went for a ride in a friend SS('01, mines an '00) and he seemed to burn the tires very easily and even squeal them in the 1-2 shift. His car just seemed to pull harder than mine, but all he has done is a bullet in place of the muffler, lid, and nittos. Why does his car seem so much faster than mine?? I do have a minor air leak and my lid has never fit right, damn whisper lid, but I dont see how that would make his near stock ss feel so much faster than mine with headers, ory, and magnaflow catback. Someone please elaborate on what might be happening, or if I'm just mistaken. Thanks.

Either race or strap both cars on the dyno to find out which one is putting down more rwhp and rwtq. With your mods you should have more power than him. An LS6 intake would be a good investment for you though.

Well if you haven't dyno tuned that bad boy, or programmed it properly, I could see his car feeling more stout then yours. You should look at the dyno graphs posted here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/375184-many-ls1-dyno-s-5-0-4-8-truck-tr224-cheatr-stock-bolt-ons.html

and go to the one w/ the guy making 329whp w/ headers and a few bolt ons. His graph dropped off too soon. If you know of anyone w/ HP Tuners, see if they'll let you buy an extension for your car, so that it can be tuned, or better yet, have a shop tune it. My guess is that your power isn't all the way across the board. Just guessing though.

Totally aggree.

When my brother and i were helping mom find a suv. My brother test drove a jeep cheroke 98 and i was sitting passenger. I thought this thing pulled really hard, he would step on the gas and the thing pushed me back into the seat. And I already had my camaro so i was very impressed......untill! It was my turn to test drive the suv and i was very disappointed. Stepped on the gas and it seemed to have a lot of lag. So it is very differnt when you are riding passenger then when you are the driver.

thanks guys, i do agree with the passenger thing. I am having it dyno tuned on the 24th and will post some numbers in a new thread and i'll ask what everyone thinks of the numbers then. I have had the car tuned, by a very well known tuner in florida. He did some timing, air/fuel, fans, and deleted codes. So I dont think its that, but I will post the dyno graph after I dyno it and then we'll see whats goin on.

Forgot to add, I am gonna get an ls6 intake in the near future, they are just so expensive for me right now. After I get the cutouts installed, lca's, sfc's, and stb installed, I will look into a new intake.

I am a tad confused. You had the car tuned at RevXtreme, but it wasn't a dyno tune? You should have sprung for that to begin with.

Also, you were impressed by your buddys ability to squeal tires going from 1st to 2nd? Mine did that bone stock, and still easily does it even after the addition of SFC's, LCA's, and a Torque Arm .....with 315 Yoko AVS Sports in the back.

Are you telling me you can't chirp second in a 6 speed with a catless car with headers? If that's the case, then you are either shifting at 2000 rpm, only use half throttle, or shift very very slowly

Manny

I do shift at 2k, but thats in stop and go traffic driving. I thought I could shift pretty fast, but I guess not. I might have to give it a good 1-2 full throttle pass and see if I can or not. His car just seemed like it had more power than mine, but maybe I am just judging it differently. I didnt get it dyno tuned because the cost different of the tune I got and dyno tune was aorund $350. Why not save money.
