Default AFR heads plus "baby" 222/224 cam

Specs are 222/224 .566/.568 112+2 comp XE lobes. Very mild daily driver cam-slight lope power everywhere! AFR heads milled .040 all the boltons, headers, no cats, UD pulley and ported TB. Car is a 02 Z06. The crazy thing is my DCR calculated to be around 9.12 but the car shows no knock in street driving or the dyno. Timing is a conservative 22 degrees-here's the graph and the cam is for sale-only 250 miles( clutch break in and dyno time only).

Excellent power! Is that with shorties? Do you still plan on running the LG long tubes?

Hey Patrick, no that is with the Stainless works long tubes and a Dr. Gas x-pipe after the collecters. I was going to go with the LG's and the G5X3 but I think that cam is a bit much for a true daily driver. I've got the Cartek 2X cam in there now and I flycut my pistons over the weekend as well. The Cartek cam is just a tad bigger than this one but has really proven itself at the track running as fast as 10.60's@130!!!!!I keep going back and forth between the LG headers but the price tag is very steep-$1695 with cats and $1395 without. The way I look at it as Cartek does not run LG headers and they have some of the fastest track proven combos with a cam much milder than the G5X3-so I'll try ther cams and combo out first-if it all fails then to LG. Cam swaps are snap with my 2 pc timing cover!

Nice power out of that small cam! What length pushrods did you end up with?

7.35, I went with those since the heads are milled .040.

Damn, VERY similar set-up.
Mine is a 222/222 566/566 on a 112 and it did not fair nearly as well with the .030 milled AFR's on .045 cometics (30 HP less) and I DO have the LG's w/ x-pipe FWIW.

Props go out to your set-up !

What compression do you figure your running ?

Yeah but I don't see a underdrive pulley or a ported TB in your sig-I do see the 4.10's which will cost you some on the dyno but make up for it at the track. Also do you know how much advance you have-I'm guessing 4 degrees. I bet if I put this cam in straight up at 112 + 0 it would of made a bit more power. My piston sits .007 out of the hole and this was with a cometic so compression was right around 11.8. I have had no problems running 94 octane Sunoco. I was afraid of knock with my DCR so high( 9.12) but the car handled it no prob-although I was probably leaving some power on the table since I only ran 22 degrees total. Remember Raughhammer years ago ran the C1 with MTI heads milled .060 and he had no issues in Texas heat-plus he was running 10's at 122 with that cam! I think we can get away with alot of compression on these motors compared to motors of yesteryear.

Four degrees advance in my cam. Timing was set to 28 degrees. No ported t-body or electric pump but I did dyno before the 4:10's. Pistons actually .011 out of the hole. Raughhammer's car was a tin can from what I understand but still illustrates that you can build successfully around a good cam.
I want to know who ported your throttlebody !
I know of a local C5 with the 224/228 cam, LG's and AFR's putting down 350 (ish) or so but its an auto and he ran 11.7 on drag radials.

That puts your cam on a 108, a cam that size is going to run out of steam real quick-I bet money that you'll pickup power by retarding it 4 degrees. I know Raughammer's car was light but I think it weighs just as much as my Z06-I'm at 3300 and I weigh 220. I port my own TB for the C5's-i have an brand new ported TB if your interested-you can pm me. Also the numbers are one thing, drag results are another. FWIW my car dyno'd 360 stock and 376 stock and tuned. You gotta love the driveability of the cam-i left the idle at 800 to hear the lump!

I just did some number crunching and found your DCR to be 8.27 with an MLS gasket and 8.55 with a .040 gasket, so you still have room to work with.

that's the stock intake. The #'s were with the cometic, no valve relief and -.007 out of the hole-I get over 9.1 for DCR?
