Default Help with dyno results - low HP

Hi

98 A4
K&N induction
Mac Headers
Mac cat y pipe
Borla cat back
MSD coils

Recent compression test was excellent. Car runs fine. No engine codes. New plugs and wires. New cats.

Dyno results:

A/F = 12.6 @ 3800 RPM
A/F = 13.0 @ 4600

peak hp = 243
peak torque = 275
Mustang dyno

I expected atleast 300 HP at rear wheels. What to check?

torque converter lock up
knock sensor
fuel pressure
throttle body open
Dyno service out to lunch?

Any comments or help appreciated.

JA

Something wrong with that dyno. Ask them what other LS1 are running on their dyno.

Hi

Thanks. I will try and find anouther dyno service. Atleast I know my A/F is OK. I have a Vinci tuner and tried to tune it, but it could not interface properly with the PCM code. I have sent it back for reprogramming. Hopfully I can get it back and get it to work.

Thanks JA

Mustang dynoes read lower numbers, typically, but serve well for tuning.
Try a dynojet next time if you want dyno war numbers.

But they will if they are set up right. Some Mustang dyno's have been set to read in line of Dynojet's.

For a 98 car I would check the KR.It is common for 98's to pull 3.9 degree's of KR for no reasion.

Hi

Would the fix be a new KR sensor or a software patch? Thanks for the input.

First you need to scan a pull and see if it is actually pulling KR..Alot of the 98's I actually just delete the sensors when I get the tuning set.Keep in mind the tuning has to be spot on to do this or you risk wrecking the motor.

Hi

Yes that will be my next task. Get a scanner and do some logging. Thanks for the help.
