what's the big deal with flycut pistons.... they are still stock and aren't any stronger!

'99 40K mile shortblock: AFR 205's, 10:7:1 compression, TSP 233/239 .600/.603" 112LSA cam, LS6 intake, ported TB, March pulley, 1 7/8 LT headers, true 3" duals with cats, 3:90's, M6, 7100rpm redline and Katech rod bolts and ported LS6 oil pump. 439rwhp/385rwtq on 91 thru cats/exhaust. 20K miles on this combo and going strong.

my brother 423rwhp/379rwtq
my friend 447rwhp

First, can someone breifly explain the purpose of flycut pistons and
Second if TTP holds the record at 505 w/flycut pistons then you kind of have your answer

Fly Cutting is for valve relief’s.
Means you cut small smiley face into your pistons to allow additional clearance for the valves to not contact the pistons.
With valve relief’s, it will allow you to run a bigger cam without the valve hitting the pistons.

481/440 (A half a dozen "Hail Mary" runs....475/435 any day of the week)

Stock GM short (NO flycut)
11.25 CR
224/228 Cam
.040 Cometic
AFR 205 Heads
Ported FAST 90
LG Headers
ASP Underdrive (25%)
Mezeirre WP
3.90 Ring & Pinion
3" Random Tech Cats

Ten more degrees of cam timing and I might have been there! (But just putting up a big peak number wasn't what that "program" was obviously about).
