Default New cam dyno-not what expected

Cant say i'm really happy.
I was hoping for a small improvement at 3500 up, but actually lost Torque across the chart (until 4800 where previous tq starts dropping) and lost Hp until 4800rps (where it takes off.)
Where my previous TQ was 329.4@4500rpm it is now 327.3@4874rpm
" " " HP was 304.3@5263rpm it is now 339.3@6500rpm.

Cam spec is 224/224 114 lsa .578".

Was i expecting too much? What if we advance the cam a few degrees?

OK, you gained 35 rwhp with a very mild cam and you're not happy? Cams are about compromises. What you gain at the top, you take away from the bottom. Some cams make bigger swings than others. Honestly, I would not expect a 224 cam to give up much if anything to a stock cam down low. Advancing 4 degrees will give you some of your bottom end back without costing you too much upstairs. Do you know what your intake centerline is?

No I dont, This is a Synergy cam. I understand about losing some low and gaining top but was expecting losses below 3500rpm.
Being a rather large pickup i want more in the mid range. How much lower will the cam come on if we advance it 4deg?
Thanks!

you can advance the cam but i don't think you're going to pick up an insane amount of torque that you are looking for. you could have went for a lsa of 112 or 110.

you should have researched your cam selection a little better because its sounding like what you want this cam won't give you.

I agree.
I'm not looking for insane amount of gains. Just want better performance where i can use it more often.
So advancing the cam will move the power band back a little, and that should work for me.
Not being an expert of cams by any means, let me ask this. When the cam is advanced, does the hp curve stay the same, just moves back, so that in my case the hp curves would overlap?

you shift the powerband backward when you advance. peak hp may change but not by a lot.

I'm very surprised you lost as much low-end torque as you did. I dyno'd my LS1 vette and LS1 camaro the same day a couple years back. The camaro was stock, the vette had long tubes, a 224/0.581 114LSA cam and LS6 intake.

The vette was down 10ft-lbs at 1700rpm, had tied the camaro at 2500rpm, and at 3500 was 10ft-lb ahead, 4500 30 ft-lbs ahead, 5000 43 ft-lbs ahead, 5500 60ft-lbs ahead, 6000 was 70 ft-lbs ahead.

Maybe a 224 cam acts a lot bigger in a 5.3 than a 5.7? Or else maybe my 1 3/4" long tubes and LS6 intake propped up the low end, and without them my vette would have done worse?

Are you sure your tune is good? Maybe you're running rich at low rpm?

Since it's a truck, I would recommend advancing the cam 4 degrees. This will drop your power peak around 200-300 rpm and bring back a good bit of your torque down low.

Usually we dont lose much TQ like that as well, but it could have been from adding the convertor as well. Its easy enough to just advance the camshaft a few degrees and have another go at it.
