Default Dart 205 Results

I installed the heads over the past couple of weeks. I also removed some parts from the prior setup so it is not a complete "apples to apples" comparison.

Removed:

Stock lifters
Crane 1.8 rocker arms

Installed:

Morel lifters
Crane 1.7 rocker arms
Dart 205 heads

Here are the results. I picked up about 24 hp and 24 lb-ft of torque. I also eliminated my infamous dip at 5,800 RPM. The other interesting thing that I ran into was tuning issues and the car was stuck at 385 hp. It turned out to be a dirty K&N filter in my Vararam Shame on me, I forgot to clean it prior to going to the tuning session.

Also worth noting is that the prior dyno was last November and the interesting thing here is the fuel situation. With the conversion from MTBE to ethenol in the fuel, I'm not sure how much that affected the final results but a lot of you guys who have done mods over the winter may find this skews your final results as well. I tried to buy 'non-ethenol" fuel, but apparently I didn't. Slowhawk who did the tuning (great job again ) noted he couldn't put in as much timing due to the fuel.

Why did you take the 1.8's off dude?
Did you have stock heads beforehand?

Very nice numbers on a dyno that reads low, it would have done 400 plus on most others. The cam in this car is very small and sounds very stealthy. I do believe he had the 1.8 with the stock heads. It was nery nice meeting you yesterday, i'll see you at the meets this summer.

Yes, stock heads. I pulled the 1.8's to put less load on the springs. I still have them though, and they may return in the future

I am also curious how much this new gas with the ethanol is costing on the dyno

Ethanol requires I think 7:1 AFR odd to achieve stoich. In addition while it has less propensity to knock due to the higher octane it also burns with less energy.

So it might help if you have real high compression, but Id try not to use it otherwise.

I guess the best way is to dyno the differences. (Hmm maybe something will come up on google)

I tried a google on it and found a bunch of import guys frustrated with the new laws that are going into effect. Our govenor has decided we will all use ethanol so we can't get fuel without it now

Since the state is so small, wonder if the neighboring states made the same bonehead decision.

And I assume these Dart 205's were over the stock heads?

Congrat's on the Dart's. Was it their CNC'd heads they supposedly were gonna' come out with or have they not started CNC machining them yet? IMO, you've prob got a few more numbers left in there. Dart makes great heads for the price from what I've read and seen here. Ported right, they have put down some good numbers.

Nope, not ported. I did disassemble them and smooth the ports but no material was removed to open them up. So other than smoothing, these were out of the box.

Not bad for out of the box darts and a small cam. Cool.

Yeah this winter fuel is screwing up a lot of my friends #'s, I'd be happy w/ 400 through your setup, good job.

ethanol has a much higher octane rating than gas, I dont see how going to ethanol means less timing.

I think I would rather have Don answer this since I couldn't give you an accurate answer. Hopefully, he will chime in.

Congrats Vettenuts!! Glad to see your "rollin" now. The torque & HP curves look real good. No dips, spikes or any other freakiness. 350ish ft. lbs. @ around 3000 = , then it just keeps on going up nice and smooth.
