Default Custom cam 224/228 expectations

Well I finally put all the parts together and am just waiting for the the shop to get my 224/228 on a 114 LSA cam to arrive. Been saving up parts and $ for quite sometime now and here is what is going on the car all at once:

Exhaust
1) QTP headers w/HFMC w/Stage 8 header bolts
2) Custom 3" Y w/ Random Tech CATS and Magnaflow merge collector
3) Exiting out Magnaflow catback

Internals
1) 224/228 114 LSA cam
2) Comp pushrods
3) Comp 921 dual coil springs w/ Titanium retainers
4) New seals/Gaskets all around
5) LS2 timing chain

Bolt-ons
1) LS6 oilpump
2) LS6 intake manifold
3) 85 mm MAF (if tuner likes it)
4) Poly motor mounts

Transmission
1) LS7 clutch
2) LS7 flywheel and pressurplate

* Car will be completely dyno tuned

Important mods on the car already
1) Bo White ported TB
2) Whisper Lid
3) K&N filter

I promise to update when I get the dyno sheet back from the tuner.

To keep me occupied until that time comes: What do you think she will put down to the wheels?

Maybe 430bhp?

I bet your getting excited. Start saving up for all the extra fuel you will burn.. any tyres.

Excited is an understatement. Forgot to add there will be a new set of tires a few weeks later.

Supposidly the fuel economy will be close to what I get now, but not if I want to "test" out the new mods.

Tuner said to expect nothing better than 385 rwhp...

I've seen members on here get more than that though...

I would rather expect low and be excited than the other way around.

i have the exact same cam... before i tuned it, i lost ~1mpg.... once i got it tuned my MPG didnt change from where it was before i put the cam in... and now that ive changed a few things in the tune, and im driving with a lighter foot, im getting better MPG then ever before.

i cant help ya with your power figures though.. i dont have headers yet.

Yeah figuered not to get hopes up. I'm expecting 385 at least though. Hope so for the $ paid out...

But the MPG increase would be nice as well. Just have to get over the foot syndrom...

I wouldv'e opted for the "Mamo" cam and eventually get the AFR's. It's also a 224/228.

So what do you think of it overall?

Powerwise, drivability, any experience you have with it.

I also would expect around 385-390 i have similar mods and a bit smaller cam and made the #'s in my sig. watch that MAF, id try a dyno run with the stock MAF and then a run with the 85mm....... it could throw you off

Yeah that MAF is a hit or miss I have heard. I will tell the tuner to do that and use the better of the two. I don't want to worry about it at all, especially after all the saving up to be screwed over by another SLP mishap...

i like it.
car feels faster.
i was worried about drivablility since i daily drive her and lug it alot...
i can stick it in any gear and idle along, just like stock.. she'll still catch herself if i let the idle dip down to just below 500...

you can hear she has a cam with the open exhaust, but its a "hmmm, does it have a cam??" when the quiet exhaust is on.

i cannot comment much on the idle/drivability when the cam is just tossed in with zero tuning. after it was in, i drove it around the block.. i stalled her once when backing up, but it was more me trying to be quiet for the neighbors then anything else.

right afterward i flashed in a touch more base idle air, and i havent touched the idle since. if your tuner has any idle issues, you need a new tuner.. lol.

ive had it for a couple thousand miles now, and overall im very happy with it.. normally id have track times, but i have some mods i need to do before im allowed back at the track (convertible + no rollbar).. plus my clutch is now slipping whenever i bolt the slicks on... and she needs headers anyway... so im just holding back to do a bunch of mods at once.

Yeah I figured that I would try and get the most out of the tune with both the header and cam install at the same time.

Thanks for the responses guys, seems as though my research was right. Cam only should be able to make about 380-400 with the appropriate supporting mods. Hardest part now is just waiting...

OK I will put up a full review later but I have the results.

First run ran a 374/345.
Leaned car out and got 386/356
Richened up a little for a solid 12.32 A/F ratio (to keep the CATS in check)

Final results were 376/350.

The run conditions were horrible. Had to drive 8 miles to the dyno. Soon relized the dyno was outside and we had 110 degree temps that day. So I consider it a solid 380 HP due to some considerations

I am having a problem with the QTP's hitting my K-member though so I have to get that worked out soon.

Let me know what you think.
