Friend here in AZ on a stock bottom end running TEA 2.5 ls6 heads, custom EDC cam built to the heads spec, FAST, full bolt ons minus EWP(Verbs old setup) through a 12 bolt and 3.73's ON A NITROUS TUNE put down 492/423

Besides, this wasn't a question of can the stock rod bolts hold 500, it was can you GET TO 500 with stock sized motor. The topic just kinda skewed off for a second.

I highly doubt that a 500rwhp setup is all that friendly to drive and maintance/reliability must suffer at that state of tune.
Plus you'd probably need a really high CR and high octane fuel to support it.
But mostly I bet it's down to dyno operation. Non-SAE corrected figrues could be noticable higher, also graph smoothing (or lack of) can easily show 20rwhp too high.
Also Dynojet Dyno'd tend to be inertia dyno's and read comaritively high compared to load bearing dyno's.
Example:
500rwhp Dynojet would be about the same as 468rwhp on a Mustang Dyno.

Hey guys- not to jack the thread, but am considering getting a forged 383 package prebuilt for under $4000. Would a N/A 383 package be able to hit 500 rwhp without power adders?? Gillbot, from what i have found, you can easily get a forged 383 motor for $3500- $4000 without a core exchange! I am thinking that is even better than forging your motor or rebuilding it when the time has come. What do you guys think??

Thats just for the short block. Plan on atleast another $2k for the H/C and other supporting mods.

I wouldn't expect to make more peak horsepower with a stroker, more torque and area under curve though. Adding bore is what gives you more power. There are a few out there who have done 500rwhp, stock rear end, ewp, fast intake....all the little tricks are needed to get there. With all the new heads out there now i think it may be a little easier to get there. As far as the highest stock displacement, i believe futral put down 550rwhp with a high compression solid roller motor, that's the highest i've seen on stock displacement, with a 10 bolt 560-565 would probably have been possible.

That is my car: 507.9RWHP and 433.6RWTQ with a hydrolic roller cam, stock LS1 bottom end with 63K on it and ported LS6 heads. This is through 4.56 gears in a 12-bolt as well.
Compretion is just slightly higher then stock due to the heads being decked to be strait.

Im an not trying to be a dick, just saying that with the right parts, and the right tuner it can be done reliably, safely and effectivly.

I knew it COULD be done, I'm just curious what it takes to get there. From what i've read, you have to go pretty far to get there but 400-450 with a good H/C is rather easy.

gillbot : I think with TFS heads + Ven.. Custom Cam + 90/90 ported intake & all bolt- ons get ya in 495-510rwhp range ...try to search man .
