Default Turning up the wick!! 485whp/425wtq H/C LS2

Finally made it back to they dyno. I've made some changes since the last dyno.

I put my stock wheel/tire combo on to go back to the dyno. The chrome aftermarket wheels that are 1 inch wider and also run a 305 tires rather than the 285. The weight difference is 7.5lbs heavier at each corner than stock for the aftermarkets.

I also changed the clutch. The clutch was upgraded for a textralia unit and is 13.4lbs lighter than stock. I'm running the OZ700 in case you were wondering.

I then changed out the 3.42 gear for a 3.90 gear(lost some here).

I changed out my accordian bellow for a smooth bellow I fabbed up in my garage because the stock one had the air transitioning about 40* downward mid stream due to the FAST intake/vararam/spacer combination.

I finally changed out my 2.5" catted X-pipe for a 3" offroad X pipe.

I changed the timing from 21* to 27.5* down low and from 20* up top to 22.5*. I cleaned up the a/f as well.

The change was staggering as I picked up 20-27ftlb of tq down low and a solid 20whp/20wtq up top. The middle range around 4-5K I couldn't get anymore out of it. It wouldn't withstand more than 17.5* of timing. I think this is more a function of running pump gas and 11.7:1SCR. I believe I'm a camshaft change away from reaching 500whp. I am enjoying this setup too much now though. I'm going to see if I can make it back to the track somtime in the near future and see how much she picked up there. Anyway, here is an overlay of the old setup and the changes. I think making the rotating assembly lighter due to the stock wheel/tire and clutch change really helped as well. My aftermarkets are roughly 63-64lbs a piece. Thanks again to Ed at FTI for a killer cam.

great numbers, you should definately be able to hit 500 rwhp with those heads and the benefit of a 4" bore. Care to share your cam specs so some one smarter then me can discern in what way you can change the camshaft to get more power out of your engine?

Awesome numbers Doug, are you still going FI or are you going to swap out the cam and stay N/A???

Your posts are always so detailed, it's nice to be able to read through and come to a logical conclusion on your mods, instead of I just got all this power out of somewhere.

who is tmoney? I am probably still going to put a shot of gas on it. I'm really liking the power/driveability of it now though .

i ran afr 225's on my ls2 motor, and it did the same thing after peak power, fell off hard, i have seen this quite a few times, is it a issue with the heads?? because the power doesnt carry at all past peak.

by the way my set up, made 489 rwhp 449 rwtq, with a 232-234 xer lobes xer cam and of course fast 90 and afr 225's

I like your set-up

I myself would have used a larger cam but I like the fact that you have the right bolt-ons

I think I might have seen you on occaision down here; what type of rims do you have?

If not, Twist has spoken to me of your Car and combo and has always had high praise

EDIT: forgot to ask, where did you dyno?

Doug,

whats up dude, now I really hate you haha...just kidding...
Nice numbers, nice combo, overall sweet *** ride!

I am debating whether or not to change my set up already...maybe a slightly larger cam, with a nice lil flycut and thinner gasket...i want more torque, so maybe milling is not the answer...

What do you think man

Excellent numbers for a conservatively cammed combination....perfect street set-up in a heavy vehicle.

Your probably 4-5' of duration away from the magic 500 mark but its just a number and it will cost you a little bit of low end TQ. Depending on your goals and driving habits it may or may not make sense to chase that although cam swaps in the new GTO's dont seem to bad and the price of a cam certainly isn't horrible.

Either way you have a killer set-up....

Congrats!

Question

Where are you guys getting your pistons fly-cut down here? I haven't been able to find a reputable machining shop that I'd trust yet.
