Default 383 Dyno numbers in 02 Z06

Well I am a little disappointed but not much. I figured the car would go 475/450 minimum but I only got 465/445. There were no dyno tricks and the car was at 185* with three pulls pretty much back to back to check different timing levels. All three pulls were with in one hp. It was 88* and humid at the dyno. The DA was +2,500. The engine only has 600 miles on it and I am still running thick 20/50 mineral oil. All numbers are SAE corrected but you still can't make great power in crappy weather. Here is the combo.

Forged Eagle rotating assembly 4.00, 6.125
Diamond -7cc pistons 11.7SCR 8.7DCR
AFR 205's 59cc up graded springs
Comp 239/244 .651/.612 112+2 Degreed on 110
Comp 850's
TSP 7.35 pushrods
Rollmaster double adjustable
ASP UD
Supermaxx LT's w/ gutted catt's
Borla Stinger
LS6 manifold with ported TB

That is all the pertinent engine info. The tune is spot on at 12.9 across the board with 25* total. We used 27* and 29* with no KR and gained nothing so I dropped it back down to 25* for safety. Plus I can run a 150 shot on this set up and not reduce the timing. I built the engine and tuned it from scratch my self. I don't really think I could have added any different parts besides a 90/90 to make any more power. I don't think I left any thing on the table. It just seems kind of low to me. I did however compare it to an AFR headed G5X3 cammed 347 that made the exact same peak numbers. The difference under the curve was shocking. I had tq and hp all over that thing.

The car makes 400rwtq at 3,100 and carries it to 6,000 the peak is spread across 500 rpm from 4,700-5,200. The hp is over 450rw at 5,600 and carries to 7,000. It peaks at 6,000-6,500.

The car drives great and avaraged 19mpg around town during tuning. I got about 26mpg on the way to the dyno on the highway at 75 with the AC on. All and all I am happy. I just wish it would have made about 20rwhp and 10rwtq more. Do you guys think a 90/90 could get that? I was seeing about an inch and a half vacuum at WOT on the dyno. I think that denotes a restriction? I have the graph that I can email to some one if they want to post it up.

I bet a ported 90mm setup would get your 20rwhp.

Well Bro don't get mad but my 346 after Louis at LG Motorsports got done with it put down 480+ rwhp and 454 rwtq and with 37 less cubic inches. Not saying that to be smart but I am saying it to advise a ported 90 mm FAST intake to let that sucker breath. You have more cubes and the motor wants more air, give her air and she will give you power.

I looked at your setup and I am impressed that so many people can do this stuff themselves. I can't, I had to pay the pros. It looks like you got some seriously awesome results doing it yourself. One other thing I would ask is about your header choice. I don't know if you want to spend more cash but LG Motorsports' Pro Longtube Headers make your car feel like night and day after installed. Even when they are replacing the headers from another manufacturer. Case in point I rode in one of my friends corvettes, he has the same setup H/C/I as his friends corvette. The only difference is the headers. The one with LG's pro longtubes made 11 more rwhp and 17 more rwtq. These cars both have similar mileage and were both done at the same shop and dyno'd on the same day, but the LG Header car made more power. Just thought I would pass that along. You can see my dynograph in the dyno section in a thread called LG Motorsports trip #3 allngn_c5 dynograph. I would love to compare our graphs. My final numbers are coming, a few more tuning ideas are going to be tried and fresh gas is going to be put in the car and see if it helps her make anymore power over the stale stuff that has been in the tank for some months. Sorry for the long post.

You've got a great sounding long-block...love the cam choice.

Just concentrate on the remaining airflow mods...
A ported FAST 90/90 would be worth around 25-30 rwhp
Headers with HVMCs, smooth pipes instead of gutted cats

Well Pat, Predator Z and you speced the cam. I really can't believe the way it drives. I think I am finally figureing out the last little bit of the tune. I also had the sniffer in the tail pipe so I probably could have leaned it out some more. It was picking up a couple of hp with each tenth leaner. I like to stay on the safe side of things. I figured the gutted cats would probably be hurting me. I think they probably disrupt flow and act like a resignator. But I had no choice. They were trashed when the FI motor went and I was out of money.

Allign. How big is that LG cam? You also have better headers than I. I bought my headers for an FI car where the low end tq wasn't such a concern. Live and learn. I will email you my graph so you can compare. You have a great setup no doubt. I will work on mine a little more and see what we get. It is still a pretty green motor. I knew I wouldn't out peak any one but under the curve is where it is at. I think with better headers a ported 90/90 and an elec water pump I might be able to get you. The cubes don't matter much when you use the same bore. The 383 is a bad stroke to bore combo to begin with. I knew that going in but I was stuck with what I had. You just can't cram any more air into that bore to feed the stroke. And you can't go any bigger on the valves and heads either. So you are basicly stuck with the same air flow characteristics as a 346 but you just hurt your self even more trying to feed the extra displacement. This is a stop gap motor so it is fine for now. I am having trouble justifing the two grand for an intake right now that probably won't be on the car that long or won't forfill the needs of my next motor.

good luck, hopefully once you get it to breath, you should be able to trump 475 rwhp...

Ported 90/90 needed, no questions. You say you dont believe you left anything on the table, but you absolutely do not have the appropriate intake/tb for that cam and cubic inches.

Step it up, then get it tuned and Im sure you'll SURPASS your expectations, just as you should of the first time.

I don't know what the specs are. Its an experimental cam that Louis has been working on. I am just a lucky test vehicle. I bet after your car is properly broke in and the oil is changed you will see 480 rwhp and 460 rwtq. If you had the LG Pro longtube headers I wouldn't be suprised if your engine made 490-495 rwhp and 475 rwtq. Add on the ported 90/90 combo and you will be over 500 rwhp and 485+ rwtq. You will have one mean M/F with new headers and the ported 90 combo. You would probably pick up power everywhere like I did. I saw more improvement under the curve with those upgrades then peak improvement. Good luck bro.

Yea, I should have clarified. I just meant nothing left on the table except the intake. I was more refering to the cam and heads choice with the bolt on's and the tune. I tried to match the motor the best I could to max out what I had. If that makes sense. I might be able to come up with a Mamo Ported 90/90. We will have to wait and see. The car rips right now. But I am still down 165rwhp and 100rwtq from my SC combo. So any thing NA right now will feel slow.

good numbers to start man but a ported 90/90 like others have said WILL net you a decent amount. im sure if you look at the graph you can see where the car kinda stalls out due to airflow

About 6,100 it starts to flatten out. Where should a cam this big with the cubes I have peak? It was pulling about 1 1/2" of vacuum on the dyno at WOT. How much of a restriction does that denote? I would like to see 500rw but that will probably be un atainable with where I sit right now.

Bad Pewter. What does your combo look like? Is it any thing like mine? What kind of numbers are you looking for.

1 BAD. Do you have all the supporting mods like the 90/90 as well? It looks like we made about the same power so I guess I don't feel so bad. I bet that cam sounds bad.

its 11.06:1 and has a 7.6DCR
I wish I could try some TFS 225's and a ported 90

Good results thru the LS6 intake....cubes don't guarantee HP....only TQ increases. Airflow is the key to make big power....in fact the larger the engine the bigger appetite it has (wants to peak earlier) so airflow really starts to become a big issue. From the airbox to the tips of your tailpipe....everything must be optimized.

Add a ported 90/90, lean the motor to 13.2, run 5-30 synthetic and presto your barking on 500 RWHP....especially with the addition of a killer set of headers such as the LG Pro's with a good merge collector etc. My guess is 490+ RWHP/460+ RWHP with more power from the crack of the throttle till redline. Power gains past peak could approach 30+ RWHP.

Sent you a PM btw.....

IMO good numbers all things considered and the car should feel great at part throttle with the 205 heads and the larger displacemnent. Unfortuneatly that is one of those things you cant quantify but appreciate it every time you drive the car.

Cheers,
Tony

pretty close to yours actully but 60cc and cams a tad different im thinking 490/465ish when its all said and done threw my heavy *** driveline. so far the break in is up 50hp/50tq everywhere over my 346

Tony, Will the LG's bolt up to my 2 1/2" Borla Stinger over axle?
