Unhappy Dyno results at high altitude?

What are some power losses other people at higer elevations are seeing?

I just dynoed up here at Colorado Springs, CO (elevation approx 6,500 feet), on a 2000 WS-6 with 50k miles and bone stock.

My numbers were 299 HP & 319 TQ corrected for altitude. Uncorrected the results were pretty sad at 234 HP and 250 TQ.

That's not so bad. You have a 2000 LS1 with some of the less then optimum parts. Ex: LS6 intake, and a few other things. Not too bad for bone stock. Enjoy your car and start modding.

Sounds like the correction pretty accurate. I was up in Denver recently and drove and Expedition and a Camry. Both of them could barely get out of their own way. Hell, they sell 85 octane up there.

Hey 396 ChevelleSS..

Sounds about right. You lose ~3% of your rwhp per 1000 feet.

Hate to say it, but take it up Vail pass, and you'll (we) lose another 20%.

One of the prices of living in Colorado. Great scenery, but hard to mod.

One of the reasons, very few us of remain NA up here. You can always compensate by adding TQ via heads/cam and or gearing. You do get used to it, and that stock 10 bolt will last longer up here.

Enjoy Colorado in either case!

sounds normal, air pressure is so low up there, you would have to run a lb or so of boost to match sea level

Also, 396 ChevelleSS..

Was it a hot day when you dynoed? I didn't totally run all your numbers out, but it sounds like your correction factor was close to ~1.28.

Thats a little high, even for COS. On a "normal" 50f day, you should be closer to a 1.2 correction factor.

Thats why converting to SAE levels it all out.

Hope that helps..WeathermanShawn.

I was on the dyno at RMCR http://www.rmcrperformance.com/ here in Colorado Springs. As soon as I can scan in the dyno sheets I'll post them.

No, I haven't done Pueblo. All these track's get crazy DA's as the summer rolls on.

Mr. Luos (Denver, CO) and a member of LS1Tech, has a 99TA WS6 with a 402. Dynoed at 531/481 (SAE). His track times at Bandimere Raceway (5800') are 11.97@117.59.

Bone stock at Pueblo, breaking 100mph in the traps would be an accomplishment.

Good luck if ya go..

14.0@97 @ Pueblo Motorsports Park untuned...and off the bottle. The majority of stock(ish) f-bodies run in the mid to upper 14s at PMI with a few exceptions. PMI's track isn't the best and you don't run the best but its still a good time. If you decide to go, try to make it on a Wed night Street night....starts early June I believe. Its cheap, very few cars actually race and you can get a lot of runs in. JMO.

Friday nights are alright. I prefer to watch the Friday Night Drags. Theres A LOT of racers since they hold the time-only class, high school drags, and a few other events. It gets pretty packed. You can probably manage 4-5 runs depending when you arrive/leave. It's cheap too. I think its $10 to race time-only and a $4 entry fee. However, the first time you race at PMP for the year you'll have to buy a #...I think it's something like $5? After that you only pay for the entry and racing fee.

Looks like they changed the name. It's listed under "Get Some Autosports Street Warriors." 1st event is June 6th.
