Default Realistic ganes from 5.3l heads

My dad has a set of brand new 5.3l heads and i was thinking about doing a garage port on them and puting them on my car. My plans are to go forced induction down the road but itll probly be a good while due to lack of funds, so i was thinking of using them until then as i could most likely port them and do the install for under $100. My question is would this really be worth it? what is the cr for unmilled 5.3's? can they be milled w/ a >.590 lift cam? How much rwhp gane could i expect over my stock 241's?

Its not the lift of the cam you should be worried about, its the duration. Also, you will need bigger intake valves.

You have no PTV clearance issues with that cam. Like DONAIMIAN said, you need bigger intake valves, the 5.3 has 1.890, the 5.7 has 2.00. Any gains from higher compression will be lost to less flow.

We are running ported 5.3 heads that have been massaged by Greg Good so yes realistic gains can be had running hand ported 5.3 heads. These heads have 2.080 valves in them, but the car put down the 538/500 before this dyno. I never got to dyno after the new head improvments, but it did put down the best ET listed in my sig.

Ported 5.3's will yeild more power. If you use a stock gasket I believe it bumps the SCR to 10.8:1 Should get a bit more mid range and with the right cam, I could see 410 - 420 rw easy. I did 410rw with s mild cam and mildly ported 5.3's

I'm running a set of Bo White Port/Polished & milled .018" 5.3 heads. Running Patriot Gold duals on them with my 224/224 .581/.581 114 cam & the FelPro stock LS1 replacement head gasket.

Haven't had a single issue & the car is VERY strong so far without a tune & the stock intake still on it. I can't wait to get my Bo White port/polished Lingenfelter intake on & my tune. I'm guessing it'll hit about 420/400 or pretty close to that.
