Less than stellar?? Or not over inflated?? Read above guys, this is all happening thru a STOCK CATBACK/Cats/Stock Waterpump etc etc... The L92 set up was built almost a year ago to the day. At that time there wasnt alot of experience with the L92 setups out there. We could get the car to break 500 on a perfect day, but that was it.
I posted this to be informative. I stated above that this wasnt an EXACT comparison. Its simply something that was done here at the shop and I felt the information could be useful to some of you considering different options..
Remember, the AFR combo has OVER a half point LESS compression/smaller camshaft and makes MORE power EVERYWHERE.... Just something to chew on

Great comparison. Always nice to have options.
I have seen several of the l92 combo's that suffer from too much compression. this may have been one of them. Doesn't matter though, I am sure the customer is happy.

I don't think those numbers look too bad considering all of the stock or budget type parts on the car. Obviously some of that improvement can be accounted for by the intake, but obviously, like Ron said, it's impressive that they got that much more out of it with less compression and a smaller cam.

Aright guys, time for the owner to chime in! The l92 set up that was on my car that Vengeance built was a beast! We built it well over a year ago and when fresh it put down 520 HP with the cat back off, with the cat back on it was around 502 HP. The comparrison dyno that Ron posted was the day of my top end swap, at that time the package had 28,000 miles on it!!! Hard miles, bunch of track days with at least 10 passes each time. I hit red line and live in the upper half of my RPMs all day long! So that being said, it was a hell of a set up! L92 heads and intake were stock out of the box, no porting no polishing, or machine work was done to them at all, other than being milled. That being said the L92 set up was great!
Now the new set up with the AFR heads and the Fast 92 is well for a lack of a better word perfect. The car pulls harder then before and doesnt all of a sudden start pulling at 3k, it starts from the time you step on the gas all the way to red line! I am getting anywhere from 15 to 18 MPG in the city, with my foot in it most of the time! Cruising in traffic and around town is so smooth it drives like stock!!! but when you come to a red light it sits there and lopes and you know its not stock! I couldnt be more pleased with this set up! Its perfect in every way! You guys are welcome to ask me questions if you want, I will do my best to answer them! but for now I am going for a ride!!!!!

From the title it sounds like a battle between two heads with no other changes. You are correct not an EXACT A/b comp-between them. the AFR head made more power, why? The AFR head has a better design for forcing air into the cylinders and has a smooth ported like casting. The L92 Head if I'm correct was untouched out of the box?the casting is rough like sandpaper and has a stock GM design. It's a stock head vs one of the top(if not the top)aftermarket head out and the AFR head has an aftermarket better intake on it. Here we have apples to oranges. The AFR head is a great head,I had a set. The l92's ported with an aftermarket Intake(when it comes out)I think will shine just as good or better as the AFR head for alot less money. So far my ported l92's are making more power then my AFR heads(bad clutch stoped the dyno tunning)but,I can put my old AFR's vs my L92's,too many things different to put them head to head.

Nice results. Seams some are jumping on the band wagon without looking at the details. These were untouched heads and intake (L92/L76) with a best guess cam. I think the original results are pretty damn good and could be much improved with porting on the heads and intake (most know of the stock exhaust low flow #s) and with the knowledge gained so far a more ideal cam. These heads like a little more LSA.
The new set-up sounds amazing. But these are CNCed heads that have been out much longer than the L92s with much more experience behind them. So gains over the old are expected IMO and sounds like the customer is happy and that is the ultamate.

Thanks for info always good from ron. Would like to see fast intake on old heads to bad they havent made it yet. Sounds like a better combo. Good luck and have fun with car.

Thanx guys... Ill be posting updated results on the AFR setup in a day or so. We put the GTO back on the dyno Friday evening for some small tweaks and melted the OZ700 disc to the flywheel. Seems it has been slipping a bit and finally let go. Breaking in the new clutch now and will get it back on the roller sometime this week.
As for the AFRs, they are out of the box heads as anyone would get them. As far as I know Tony did nothing special to them.
Stay tuned....
