hardcore street racers with full suspension, come in!
i'm wanting to get more involved with street racing and take a break from the track for awhile.
well my question is, what you guys doing to get your car to hook on the street?
i have full suspension. only thing stock is rear springs and front a-arms. set on 2 and 10 for the track.
i'd like to get it to hook decent w/out vht and hook with a semi prepped street.
i raced this past friday night and half throttle i was spinning pretty bad but finally hooked up.
do i need to mess with the shocks, torque arm, or both?

I have full suspension as well even though I don't take my car to the track. If there is one thing I've learned, if you make any decent hp there is little to no chance of you hooking up on the street.

its all in the launch and tire. Also depending on your power level. Your making quite abit more then I am, but I can launch easy and stick it out of the hole, yet still manage to pull out a decent hole shot. And that is with an M6 car.

here this might help i asked this question to elky who is a very serious street racer and has a monster el camino that leaves very hard and this is what he said.
lots of seat time and tweaking he very basic setup to be honest,i have well over 2000 passes in the elco,so i know what it likes. And i have been building stock style suspension in house for it for a few years, with the right combo of shocks it now leaves 100% on the t brake with a 400hp fogger leaving at 50% and ramping in over 6tenths of a second. That was my little baby motor to.this year the car should go some 5.50s to 5.60s in the 1/8th on one kit and hopefully 5.30s on both kits. And do it on the street if all goes well.

just installed a little 10" powerbass sub and a kicker amp in the trunk. MORE TRACTION! hahaha
Anyway, get some sticky street tires and get that weight transfer back there.

there is your problem, et streets will not hook if you are making torque anywhere over 400rw. I say go Hoosiers or Nitto555r's Anything that hooks on the track is completely opposite on the street. Maybe look into some BFG Radials.
If you watch some REAL street racing videos it is obviously possible to hook on the street like 1320video for example on youtube.

Uhhhh.....this entire statement is WRONG. I originally had 555r's on my pulley/ported Cobra (500+rwtq) and couldn't hook for **** no matter what I tried. Threw on the ET Streets and hooked EVERYWHERE. Then I got the 3.4 Whipple and 600+rwtq and was still hooking with the ET streets if I heated them up properly.

not on the street... its a whole different ball game... does it matter, yea.. but not like your making it to be...
less weight on the street (within reason) will hurt you usually.. if your making any kind of power worth racing with..
nitto555rs suck ***... good for what? 1.6s, 1.5s TOPS.. BFG drag radials.... how about a decent street tire, cause thats all those are...
wrong.. a slick will hook better than anything anywhere as long as its dry.. then a radial... then a street tire...

lemons, you realize you are fighting physics here? Maby removing a bunch of weight that would normally be over the rear axle hurts traction. In general though its more than a safe bet to say that the lighter you can make your car the better it will hook, on or off the street.

Ok, well my friends Cobra makes 670rwhp and on the street his 555R's hook and his Hoosiers do not. On the track it is completely opposite. I would not know because I am not up "there" with all the big boys I just have a low 12 second Z06.
