Question How much is too much power for the street?

There's alot of fast cars out there on the streets. How much RWHP is too much for the streets? Some of you might say you can never have too much, but honestly, Theres has to be a point...

depends on what you can effectively use I suppose. If you are just blowing the tires off, whats the point?

Depends on the setup. HP doesnt really matter, there are 300whp cars that cant hook so for that car that would be too much, but there are 500whp that can put it all to the ground.

It's all about how much torque the tires can handle. If we're talking a 500ci big block with a torque curve that peaks just off idle, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for a drive in the rain. If the power is all up top, generally a car will feel sluggish lower in the rpms, and will be very manageable at cruising speeds, although then you have to worry about idle and stalling problems.

I voted between 850-900 because ive seen a 8XXwhp Cobra hook on the street on ballon stickys but he still hooked. Ive seen a 580whp Trans Am hook on DR's with no street prep spraying off the line. But then Ive seen Civics with 250whp spin like crazy threw 2nd on DRs. It all depends on the car, suspension setup, and how you drive it. My friend drives his 600whp Supra(600pump,780race gas) all the time.

I'd have to say if it's a DD type street car ~700 has to be the limit simply for the sake of drivebility/mpg/etc. Once you push that barrier you get into spooled rears, race clutches, slicks, drag suspension, cages, fiberglass body panels, etc. Not to say it's a rule with ever car that is pushing an honest 700hp, but in general anyone going that far usually has the car set-up as a package not just a stock car with a built motor.

If the car is a nasty N/A car then you run into drivability issues and crappy idle stuff like that so I say around 500hp. Boosted car is a different story 1000 hp and it Idles like stock..

850+.
I've seen 200hp V6 Mustangs that couldn't hook on the street and a couple 1000+rwhp single turbo Cobra's dead hook on the street. Suspension plays a HUGE role.

None of your choices are the answer for me. Never too much, and btw 100mph burnouts are fun.

I say too much is any amount that you can't handle. I knew a guy who had a 160hp 3.4L Camaro and couldn't handle it. For some reason he always asked to drive my car with more than double his flywheel hp on the ground... He asked a lot and I told him no a lot lmao

Was it automatic? If I smashed the pedal in first in my '08 it would spin like crazy.

Realistically I would say 450-500whp would be enough for the street to be able to drive it an enjoy it on a regular basis. But there is a guy locally that has a 1200whp 93 Cobra Mustang that drives it all the time, but just as a weekend warrior and he can handle the power fine. So I guess I would say for a daily driver 500 but weekend warrior the limit is unlimited.
