The 96 wasn't even a question.. The 04 you should win. It'll be a drivers race like already said. Having said that, I took an 04GT last year with just my shorty headers and exhaust. Won by a car and a half or so.. This year he wouldn't talk to me after my Cam swap.. So he went and bought a cobra. haha.

With good drivers stock 05's will do mid 13's but with the average driver late 13's/early 14's. With bolt-ons my friends have nailed 12's with ease, they seem to respond very well to bolt-ons. Funny because those cars don't feel all that quick when your driving them. That will come down to the driver assuming he is stock but if he has a good CAI, tune, mid-pipe, catback you will be in trouble.

For reference:
My buddy with stock '05 did best of a 14.1 his first time out
Same guy with mid-pipe, cold air, catback, tune did 13.3
Other friend with '05 with cold car, catback did 13.6 first time ever racing
Other friend with an '05 runs 12.8 with cold air, mid-pipe, catback, pulleys, tune.
And another one of my friends run 12.7's with a '03 GT 2 valve with LT's, mid-pipe, catback, pulleys, TB, CAI, tune, slicks.

You will beat the 04'. I raced a bolt-on 99' when I had intake and exhaust and beat it pretty bad, and it got worse up top.

reg 4V 4.6 blows the 4.6 2V blows....up top they are trash....good low end and decent midrange though

so i have a chance against all of them? i took out my spare and im taking my seats off and gonna try to put in a short shifter will this make a diference at all? if so how much faster should i be?

lol @ the 96, racing pre 99 gt's is hilarious I love it.
The 04 will be a better race, but you should win easily. Plus 90% of people suck at racing unless they do it a lot.

From a roll you should be able to outrun the '04 as they are not very impressive from that standpoint. From a dig though it should be a very close race. I wouldn't be suprised if the Mustang got a slight edge as the 99-04 2-valve respond very well to full-exhaust. It all boils down to how well both of you can drive.

u should kill any 4.6 2 val, there slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i had of them. i use to rape GTs. my dad had a 2002 wasnt even a race. im sure u can walk that 96 in reverse.

I walk any and all GT's under 04 and under...05 if they are stock...CAI and Exhaust...it gets difficult But it really depends on how you drive...I have an auto so I can hook ALMOST as good as my roomates STi when he launches at 3500 (not a hard launch)

All in all...GT's sound AWESOME, but they are slow as hell and an LT1 (esp the 97 with the extra 10 hp) will beat em all day

and you destroyed it i hope? near stock pushrod 5.0's are horribly slow. if it was a 5.0 stroker 2v, i hope he walked you cause if not he wasted a lot of money

idk what he had but that little guy would launch on me hard and i had to play catch up it was fast supposudly he only had a cold air intake do you really that was possible?
