i have a 5.0L fox stang, it takes hell of a lot more than just intake to make it go 14's.

he would need a **** load of mods just to run 13's. He either has nitrous or something he's not telling you. (possible built engine)

What year is this 5.0L you raced?

Driver mod perhaps?

When my PIG of a 94 GT 5spd was stock and aenemic, I drove it into the 14s, despite the fact it trapped at practically nothing (89mph stock).

87 Fox GT 5spd with stock engine less a K&N and no silcencer. Had 14degrees timing, and shorties/OR h/chambers went religeous 14.2s @ 97-98mph spinning its *** off

Both with junk 2:73 rears

However I've seen some auto cars run far less than stellar and I've seen some mild bolt on cars that seem to run poorly. But it doesnt take very much to get the lighter fox to run well.

FYI my m6 lt1 t/a ran 14.4 @ 96 for me 110% stock in a 'bog or spin' launch effort. Tried some meatier tires but it just hurt the clutch. That said a well driven lightly modded lt1 should put up a really good fight against a mild bolton fox and should beat most mild modded sn95 cars with ease. There will always be some freaks out there though.

Alot seems to depend on combo and driver. Ive driven the junko stock 2v 4.6's to 14.8s and I've seen stock lt1s go mid 15s and vice versa. Lt1s tq usually favors driver error at least.

when i first got my car, my best friend had an automatic '95 5.0. best time out of it was a 15.1 with a flowmaster cat-back. it never once beat me in a race in all the playing around we did. in a fox body it definately has the weight advantage, but i don't see the <200 rwhp making enough of a difference. maybe he had drag radials on it? definately something else other than exhaust/intake to help it out

Depending on how far youre trying to take it I would go as far as to say some Nitto drag radials out back. But dont try to launch hard because Ive seen a few rear ends break on Nittos. Continue driving as youre driving now if anything be less than aggressive if you ever go to a track.

He never did say if he won or lost, just that he had to play catch up.

This isn't as big of a mystery as you think it is.

If this 5.0 fox body car came out of the hole quite a bit faster than you, he probably had some stickier tires and some mild suspension work. Not to mention fox body ****-stangs, as UGLY as they are, are a heck of a lot lighter than 4th gen f-bodies which will also give him a hole-shot advantage over you.

If you had to work hard to pass him before the end of the race, than I'm sure he had some very small headwork done, probably along with a higher ratio roller valvetrain and mild cam. Those pieces of garbage were 15-flat cars on a good day, and if youre sure he had a stock exhaust and no nitrous, than he had some light head/cam/valvetrain work done to get him somewhere around 14-flat-- almost enough to keep up with you.

Just keep in mind-- parts for those $2 V-8's are much cheaper than LT1 parts AND those engines are easier to work on than ours, so a head/cam job on a fox-body V8 isn't a very big production.

Simple as that.

^^^^I Like the way this guy thinks.....as a former Fox body owner I completely agree the 2002 Mustang GT I have when it was a 4.6 would have had no chance against a LT1 car with just exhaust
