I have a 408ci LS2 car with heads/cam/fast90, 6spd, 12 bolt with 4.10s, etc, dyno tuned and still made 25mpg on the way home from Florida with it. And that was having some fun in it also

Fuel mileage shouldn't really be a concern when you're a 6spd.

I have about 2500 to sink into it, and I want to build the fastest car I can with that cash. The only thing the car has right now is a lid and flowmaster exhaust with a white trash cutout. I want to do a head and cam setup, but since this is my daily driver I don't want to kill my mpg...driving 3 hours home from college on weekends. I allready ordered a summit lowering kit (1-1/2"), polyurethane bushings (complete kit), and a hypertech programmer. I have a buddy who has a bone stock 2010 camaro ss and I want to put him in his place (yeah...its hard to compete with the rich) . I have access to a good reputable head place and I was thinking of porting polishing the heads...roller rockers...hardened pushrods...etc. I figure that will put me close to the 400 mark with a good tune. Any other good ways to build HP and not kill mpg? I dont mind losing a few, but 20-22 highway would be good. Appreciate any help. -James
All depends on what kind of stang you wanna kill...a 2V GT or a Bell'd Terminator ...Start w/ Heads/Cam then maybe more cubes...If your buddy is stock or close to w/ the 5th gen you wont need much to beat him seeing there not much faster then LS1's.

My advice to you is to do your research before you buy anything. Even if you are on a tight budget, you can do your research and put together a good combo that runs well for what it is. That is my advice to anyone who is just getting into modding cars, research research research.

That being said, with very few mods you should be able to beat your buddy's Camaro. Get a lid, and full exhaust, and you should pull on it pretty easily. Full exhaust will keep you happy for quite sometime if this is your first performance car.

For sure. I would do one mod at a time, so that the OP can learn the car at its different levels. This is what I have done with my cars, and it makes each mod alot more enjoyable. Going from a 300rwhp car, to a 450rwhp car overnight is alot for anyone who is not experienced with performance cars.

For alot of us, 300hp isn't really that much anymore, but its enough to get you in trouble in a hurry.

as long as the op can hold some self control and doesnt act like a dumbass ricer on the street with more than stock hp. and take the time to learn to drive, should be okay. it dont take much with a ls car to beat down common mustangs on the street.

I guess it depends on the particular Mustang you run across. I consider my car fairly common.

if your worried about winter it really isnt that bad im not sure what kinda snow you get in michigan but ive driven my t/a through 2 chicago winters and as long as you keep your foot out of it you will be fine to start you should take your car to an empty parking lot first snow storm and see how it handels. mod wise to beat stock to mild mustangs u really dont need much. i would do small cam exhaust and intake, and then your suspention trust me it helps.

I know Cobra's are technically Mustangs, but I don't lump them together. Maybe I'm weird.

regardless of that, I can count the number of cobras I've seen in the last year on 1 hand...I couldn't count the slow POS mustangs if I were Stephen Hawking

Really? That is a little weird. It's just a Mustang to me. There are certain
people on the Mustang forums that actually think they are special...like
a Lambo or something..."oh, it's a Cobra"...give me a break.

They aren't special like a Lambo, please don't misunderstand what I said that much. When a guy says he has a Stang I usually just say those are nice cars and the discussion goess the way the Stang owner wants, sometimes we start talking about mods and the like. When they say they have a Cobra I usually ask what's been done to it and we usually end up talking about cars for a while. I guess to me they are more of an enthusiasts vehicle than a regular Stang. Maybe its just the areas I have lived in.

You hush, you're on a car based site so your probably an enthusiast or maybe just a dipshit Mustang driver. You choose. I was talking about random guys you meet, they say nice car, you say thanks, and they say I have a Mustang then they start talking about knitting or some other ****.
