Both. Racing from a roll really shows which car pulls harder. It takes a certain amount of driver know-how out of the game, but emphasizes a cars performance.

BUT, who doesn't like seeing wheels up at a stop light?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought a built suspension, wheel tubs, and big sticky tires were a part of a car? So in your book that stuff is cheating but NOS and race gas used on a street race is ok?

I like both styles of racing, even though I'm a RWD V8 auto: but IMO if your car has so much $$$ and effort into making tons of power yet you didnt bother to equip the rest of the car to handle that power below 60mph than your job is only half done and you outta stop making excuses. FWD cars set up right WILL hook down low and no excuses should be needed- but you guys don't want to spend your money on stuff you cant see, polish, or attach flourescent lights too.

Give him a break he's a three post wonder and has a Fast and Furious outlook on things. He will roll race from 40mph against an 11.80 car that traps 116 and lose by a car and hence proclaim his car will go 11.90's at 115. Comical

Wow just saw that you only have 4 posts LOL thats OK seems you have a more realistic outlook on things . . . . 9 out of 10 races that are setup in the local hangout are dig runs. Alot of guys will laugh if a roll race is even mentioned.

I've never understood people who will only go from a roll. As far as I'm concerned, when people complain about not wanting to race from a dig because their car won't hook, that's just them admitting they don't have a car that's set up right. If someone will only race you from a roll, they might as well just be saying they know they'll lose from a dig, and then there's really no point in racing.

It's a hell of a lot more fun racing stoplight to stoplight and ripping the gears than just pushing the pedal down and shifting once or twice.

Dig...

Roll racing is screwing around. Not that we dont have fun with it... Who doesnt like to rip threw some gears and hit the brakes at 160....

But Racing starts at zero... You havent beat anyone if you have to start at 40... But sometimes thats all you can do. Some places its all rollss... I been to spots locally where drag radials were unseen.. some places you go you practically have community pimp juice...

Just for good measure..... Rolls are for fat chicks... YA DIG?

have you ever driven
a 1000rwhp street car from the dig. there is no street tire
or drag radial that will hold up to that much power in the street. that is why high hp cars run from a roll, roll racing is all about hp and its not that are cars are not set up for the dig. you have to have a clean and dry surface to launch
a 1000rwhp from the dig very unsafe to do

Oh really?

Ever been to a king of the street?

Not all street racing is done on some gravel road... and racing a 1000 rwhp is unsafe to begin with...

OP, from the sound of it you would murder him from a roll anyway. Just race him from the roll he wants and shut him up.

Dig races show who has the PROPERLY set up car to RACE and who is the better driver . . not just who can mash the gas at 40 and shift a gear. If you want to see which car has more hp just compare dyno sheets. .

I like roll races. That way you don't have to really worry about breaking anything. It's bad if you miss a shift or if you spin a bearing, but that can happen from a dig too.

I really like roll races because up here you get the excitement of pulling from 40mph all the way up to 130. After you hit 100mph yeah you know who won, so after that one car usually chases the other. The latter is really the fun part.

It's always a blast flying by cars on the Dan Ryan that think they're moving at 80mph. Or maybe you see a big money acr and get to see it fly.

Keep in mind this is when the highway is damn near deserted and there's maybe 5 cars every 2 miles. Doing it in traffic....not smart.

Roll is for show, Dig is for dough.

Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know the first thing about racing.

I agree with this guy.

I can do both so I don't really care.

If I get a chance to run from a dig, I much prefer that. It really says a lot about how the car is setup and how the driver can handle it, as most people in here are saying. If someone's racing for money, you've gotta have a start and finish line, otherwise you leave everything open to speculation.

That said, I enjoy roll racing a lot, too. I think we can all agree that it's rare to run into someone and be able to come to a full stop, do a burnout, and setup a start and finish line just to say we had a "legit" race. Just getting next to someone, dropping a couple gears, and seeing who pulls away (or pulls back) is a lot of fun and I much prefer it to not racing at all.

If someone wants "bragging rights", though, I say let's setup a dig race so we can see who reaches the finish line first. Maybe that's just because I spent the past three years building my car to hook even on the street and beefing it up so it won't break when I launch it and shift it hard. Anyone can just throw a big turbo or a bunch of nitrous at a car and claim they have the fastest car in the world. I think most people that really ENJOY racing like to put their money and time into setting the car up properly. Unfortunately, that puts the FWD guys at a big disadvantage right from the start, but that's not my problem. Build the car you enjoy driving and go out and enjoy it.

Gonna have to start posting more in your other forums I guess. Probably have 300+ posts in the forums that dont count towards a post count like the Kill Section. I've never been a fan of going to tech sections and throwing in comments just to rack up my total- however, the BS forums like the kill's section and off topic sections I got no problem posting up in- even though they don't "count".

I got no clue huh? Let's see: my first time playing with a Nitrous Oxide System (where the term NOS came from: before the name was used by the company "Nitrous Oxide Systems") was back in '88 when i got ahold of a full bottle and two beat up home made solenoids after my friend totaled his 6pack Charger: I made my own nozzles, switches, lines, plates... ran it on my 4 banger Escort, on my Suzuki GS550ES with the bottle in a tank bag that was strapped onto the back half of my seat, and then I put it on my friends 350/powerglide swap Chevy Luv (Luv became the S-10). Haven't used it since, but I've been around it all thru the '90s and till now, but I have no clue still eh?

Let me guess: 10 years ago you heard the term "Nitrous Oxide" and it rang any bells at all, you would be backpedalling saying 'I don't want to go to the dentist! You can't make me!' as you threw your little fit just like my kids do.
