Default What rearend gears will dyno higher?

If affected much at all which tend to dyno higher? ex, 3.42s or 4.10s? thanks

as far as gears go I don't think it matters for dyno numbers what the gear is...but I am really not sure...I have 4:10's and I love them

I've read in the past that the higher numatic gear, the lower the dyno #. I don't know how true this is, but if it is I can't imagine it being more than 1 or 2hp.

Usually, there is power lost when going from a 10 bolt to pretty much anything bigger, i.e S60, 9", 12 bolt, namely because the rotating parts are heavier and larger in diameter. The 9"s lose a little more, but that also has to do with the way they are set up.

Oh alright, I would have swore someone told me going to 4.10s would make me accelerate more but would drop me like 20hp. I was trying to figure out what drugs they were on or how this information was even accurate in any form but couldn't so I asked if 4.10s dyno lower then 3.42s.

With my mods in sig on the stock tune I dynoed 340hp 350tq at the wheels. I had 3.90 ratio in the stock 10 bolt too. I don't gears hurt me at all as far as numbers go.

gears have no effect on dyno horsepower. why do you think cars dyno in 3rd or 4th gear? it's because you have to get the input shaft of the transmission locked to the output shaft, so that the gear ratio won't effect the number, and the actual engine power is shown. a higher (numerical) gear ratio, like a 4.10, will promote torque production, and thus will increase your acceleration times, but slightly lower your top speed in each gear.

gears will not lose you horsepower. they don't effect power production, they just effect how it is used.

I don't see the reason in shooting for a higher dyno number when you are choosing gears. Dyno numbers can be misleading, just go with what gives you the best real world performance.

hmm i agree with this 99.9%.. for example, say one set of gears has a different angle cut or is better quality. then the torque transfer % efficiency of the gears could be slightly, but measurably different.
i'm just sayin' could be HP difference - not from having different gear ratio - but by having higher efficiency (since nothin's 100%)

happy easter!

numerically gears dont hurt more than a couple rwhp, and its not that they "hurt" its that the dyno just reads it as less power... but a higher numerical gear is weaker than a lower numerical gear, thats why people (like me) dont regear the 10 bolt and just get something bigger with the gear they want...
so for me, as far as roll racing goes i prob didnt gain or loss anything, but now i can launch the snot out of my car without a concern
