Default PA Inspection

I'm going to be running long tube, catless headers on a catless exhaust on a 2000 Camaro Z28 with the codes turned off down at RPM. Will it pass the OBD2 scan, and what is the deal with tailpipe testing? I hear some places do it, and some places only on 1995 and earlier cars in the state of PA.

You should pass fine. The PA has different levels emission testing around the state depending on the population of the area

Per the law a car that gets an OBD2 scan does not get a visual. only the pre 96 stuff does. At least in York, Lancaster, and Dauphin counties.

They are supposed to do a visual inspection but most shops won't if you pass the obd2.

Um no. I am inspector and I know the law very well because I have had this discussion with other techs and instructors that teach the emission class.

The law says 96 and newer cars get an OBD2 emissions test. That's it no visual. Also before they had visual inspections as part of the state inspection but for cars that get emissions test that was removed from the state inspection criteria.

That explains it.. we're a non-emissions county... so we still get the visual.
