It's so hard for me to "smile and nod". I usually try to explain my car. Now when they ask if I got anything done I just say "yup, enough". I get so tired as well listening to ppl who dont own these cars tell me what I should or should have done. Screw it

I love the guys who tell me to "chip your car man!" or "whys your intake like that?! you need to get a cold air intake man!" - **** makes me laugh, like most I stopped explaining my car to everyone. When they ask if its fast I tell them "No, its slow as ****"

A few months after I got my car in '01, I went back up to my old college for a weekend, and had a kid insist that the difference between my regular T/A and a WS6, was that the WS6 was turbocharged.

Probably not long after that, I was washing it at my parents house, where my old '89 V6 (135hp) was parked in the road. A pair of 13 or 14 year old's walked by and started drooling over the '89 and asked me about it, and how fast it was. I told them the other one was way faster and they wouldn't believe it. At least they had good taste in cars.

I've also gotten the "what's in there, a 350?" too many times to count, and gave up trying to explain the differences with an LSx.

Oh and one more from years ago...had a cousin who was semi into cars insist his friend's Prelude with I/H/E was pretty quick. I took him for a ride in my car with just a few bolt ons and he suddenly changed his mind.

No, No, No... he was not that dumb. He just said that his Non Ram Air TA with a Tornado was the same as the factory Ram Air system on the TAs. ie the Tornado helps feed more air to motor.

He was ignorant, but he did not think his Tornado made his car run low 10's

lol

I guess we've all had similar interactions but I had two with people from a local car lot.

The first one is easy enough to forgive. My tag says "FIRE CKN" I was waiting to get an inspection when one of the chronies from the lot across the street looked at me and said "I've seen and Firebird and a Firehawk, but what's a Firechicken? Is it rare?"

Next interaction was with a salesman at the same lot. They usually have some decent looking LT1 cars. Me having a bit of a soft spot for the ole LT I stop by and take a peak at a silver Trans am they have sitting there. Guy walks out and says "I see you want to upgrade. That car there is really fast, it puts out over 300 horsepower." I comment on how clean the car is and the nice shape it's in for being a 13 year old car. He says that it runs a lot better than mine, I never shut it off when I got out, that the LT doesn't run nearly as rough and is probably faster. Nevermind the lope, or fats and skinnies, I just say it has a bad miss and drive off.

Several years back i was feeling a bit nostalgic and missing my old mustang, so I stopped by a ford dealership to test drive an 03 mustang gt vert they had on the lot. The dealer saw what I rolled up in as well as the bottle, and I even told him I was thinking of retiring the ta from dd duty. On the test drive the guy told me to open it up and kept asking me if i could "feel the power". I said no, and he still went on and on about how fast the stang was.

I cannot count how many times I've been to car show or cruise-ins and have seen guys with C5s with 350 emblems/badges plastered on their cars. It really is sad. Almost every instance, the car had hundreds of dollars of chrome dress up parts and generally a CAI and exhaust, nothing more. Yuppie rice.

I about broke some old guys heart a few weeks ago at a local car meet. He had a new SS Camaro with 427 emblems on the fenders. I asked him how he got one with a 427 in it. He said it came from GM like that. I said oh, is that some special option? He says nah. Then I proceed to explain that its a 6.2L. He's like, whats that in English?? (lol) I said its about 378ci. He points to his buddy parked next to him in a silver C6Z and says he told him to put them on because he has em. I said yeah, he HAS a 7.0L/427ci, but you don't lol. He had this look of utter confusion then starts swearing and going off about the dealer lying to him haha.

LOL @ tornados.

Yeah why is it everybody think the WS6 is some monster over the regular TA's? I get "those are supercharged right?" or "hey you got the right one, those are WAY faster" type stuff once and a while.

Fine by me they can think that if they want

I have a neighbor that came by to say hello when I first moved in. Probably 20 or so years old. He said he liked my SOM Formula because of the color and the body. He asked how much power it made and I said something like 310 or so. He then proceeded to tell me that his mom had a 95 Mustang GT with 4.30's that could hit 135 in 2nd gear when he was getting on it and could nearly hit 200mph. I really didn't even know how to respond.

About that time his friend walked over after getting out of an SRT-4. I thought maybe this guy could be a car guy or sorts. First question out of his mouth was, " Is this the one that does like 185 from the factory?" I said no, more like 160. He said, "oh so this is not one of the special one's with the ram chargers".

It is safe to assume that I have not discovered a race of mental giants in my area.
