Default Corvette Grand Sport- What do you think?

Personally- I like the appearance and to keep bone stock as a semi-daily driver (good weather car) for some years to come.

All I can say is when I see that aggressive front end coming at me, I am totally let down if it's not a real Z.

I'm still on the fence with the GS's.

What's the difference between the GS and the ZO6 besides appearance?

The GS has the looks of the Z06 just with different wheels, but it has the 6.2 engine that the standard vett does

The GS does have Z06 brakes and dry sump oiling.

Thumbs up

I like the Grand Sport but I too would never spend the extra money over the already awesome base car. If I were to ever replace my C6 with a newer one it would likely be a non GS model.

Well, not all of them have the dry sump, only the manuals.

When the GS got a LT4, at least it set itself apart from the Base 350 LT1 and was mid range compared to LT5. This seems like a aggressive appearence package. I saw one UP CLOSE on the freeway down to Atlantic City and I did like it. But for the price, thats asking much.

IMO this is perfect for guys into Vettes who do not want/need ZO6 power but want a body kit and bobbles.

The GS in Hardtop M6 will be the car to have for autoxing. It has the advantage over the Z06 because of the better gearing in the trans, and that the power level is almost the same at lower RPM. With the hardtop M6 you get all the good parts. I see no reason to buy the convert or auto trans as you lose many of the parts that make it special, but still pay for them.
I see many dealers willing to sell M6 hardtop GS with the 2 mode exh for 48-50k. the best deal on a Z06 i see is 60k

Does anyone know if the engine cradle in the GS is lower & aft like it is in the C6Z? Or does it sit in the same position as a standard C6?

I think the grand sport is a great car. It looks a whole lot better with the wider stance and the gs stripes plus stands out from the 10-15 base vettes I see every day. If you ever get in a little fender bender it's not going to cost a crazy amount like carbon fiber parts of the z06/zr1, and they only go for about $50,000 base. Just throw in a g6x3 cam, american racing headers, intake and exhaust then make about 45 hp more than an ls7 too. Maybe some better seats too that aren't made to accomidate fat people like the stockers.

The only drawback is the extra 200lbs the car weighs but I would rather have the extra $20,000 in my pocket.

True...of course the 1996 LT4 GS was essentially a (temporary) replacement for the LT5 ZR1 which went away the model year before (1995).

I'm not positive but I believe that it's just like the other LS3 cars. I know the dry sump set up in the Z06 is part of what allows the LS7 to sit a little lower but not all GSs have dry sump so I'm thinking that the motor is standard height.
Of course the cradle itself isn't magnesium nor the frame aluminum like the Z06 is either.
