Question LS Transplant Question

So a buddy of mine has his mind set on putting an LS motor in his third gen Camaro. He has access to an 08' 5.3 complete truck motor with computer. The question I have is how can he use it with a 6 speed? As far as I know the computer will flip out if there is no automatic transmission behind it?
What would be the best way to get this to work???

Should be able to tune out all the trans stuff or do a segment swap from a M6 computer. I would check around in the tuning section or the conversion section

You will have to change the O.S. to an auto ECU from the M6, only way to do it as far as I know, I've done it that way in the past.

with the 08 trucks do they have a tcm and ecm? wasn't sure if trans had its own computer. might be easier to use older truck harness with drive by cable and can tune whatever trans segment you want with it.

Isnt the 08 motor a flex fuel motor? I think there are a few more steps if you do that swap.

Theres a place on ebay called tech rods they build custom stand alone harness's for about 400 cant beat the price, and very easy to hook up, I love mine no problems at all

Wish they labeled all the connectors to make it a tad easier. Along with them there is

Vinny, i made my motor and comp work in my truck with out having an elec trans. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Doing a similar swap in an S-10. Using an LQ-4 and putting a T-56 behind it. Instead of cuting and messing with the harness, I am just ordering one from Current Performance. That way it will be built to what I am using. then just using a 2000+ F-body ECM and programiing it for what I am using. As far as the trans, take off the auto stuff and just swap in any LS type clutch system.

Our harness kits are made for guys not wanting to run the Auto trans and don't need the speed sensor. With a PCM and a base cal they are just $499 shiped to the lower 48!!!

I thought I read that your harnesses dont come with provisions for o2 sensors or knock sensors?

You don't need either of those to make it run right. Knock sensor is just a factory band aid that should NEVER be relied on to do anything other then cause a heacache, and the O2's, turn them all off and run the thing in open loop, tuning wise it will be so much easier to get it running right it's not even funny. Unless he's trying to get it thru emmissions as an 08, you won't need any of that on a swap deal.

The DOD would be my only worry, I don't think GM has even set it up to work with a manual trans yet......
