Default Salvage auto question?

I am looking to buy a complete donor car for a ls swap. T56 with either a ls1 or ls2. I was thinking of buying a complete 98-02 z28 or if i had the funds a gto. Have any of you guys had luck with co-part or know of salvage auctions in the northeast that the public can attend? I live in Maine but dont mind driving 12+ hours to pick up the right salvage car. I am new to the ls world and figured I would start here--thanks

co-part is hit or miss and there is a lot of junk on there but i would say that is your best bet without a dealer or salvage license. I wouldnt rule out ebay, craigslist, and this forum to find a great donor car. I see a lot of wrecks and rollers for sale between the three.

Up there, you don't see many "sports cars" depending on what part of the state you are from. If you don't mind looking and driving, I'd watch CL and ebay in New York area as well as boston. Co part isn't so much my favorite as something like http://www.car-part.com/ where you can find local salvage yards and see who has what parts. Right now a full setup on there (engine trans wiring ect) looks to be about 2800-3500 depending on mileage ect. Good luck in your searches

Roughly how much should I expect to pay for the complete donor car. From looking around it seems a wrecked camero sells for around 3k while a gto more like 6k. Are my asumtions correct?

depends heavily on the extent of damages for sure. an ls2 dropout from an 06 GTO is worth about 6k salvage value (i have one avail).....thats tranny, motor, accesories, harness, computer...the whole nine. with a warranty....

anyone can bid on co-part i beleive. IAA you need to be licensed

Copart some vehicles are available to all, some to just vendors/dealers. Another thing to watch is bid date and release date (I believe thats what they are called) where it tells you when the auction starts/ends.
