Default Who has built a Garage Addtion On Their House??

My dad and I have been talking about this for a while and now it is starting to come more important with him looking to buy his 69 Camaro back. We are looking at a 24x30x12 (height may differ depending on lift options), but who here has had one built, would you recommend the builder to build another one or who have you heard good things from? This garage is not going to be connected to the house.

I'm starting a 30x26 12' ceiling detached garage next week off Manor Rd. in Baldwin, Md (near Sweet Air)

Give me a call, you & your Dad can come check it out for sizing, etc.

Pole barn perhaps? Relatively cheaper than a true garage.

I've got a friend with a 3 bay garage. Probably a 12' ceiling or so. Came with his house when he got it, but from what I see most of the money would be for the foundation pouring?

Could be wrong. just a thought though.

He's got 1 cinderblock high off the foundation, 2x4's with plywood paneling and just vinyl siding. Doors look relatively cheap. They're a thin plastic material that when wind hits you can definitely hear it.

My dream home:

A 3-bay garage with loft above it. I'd be plenty happy.

i have built a few garage additions, detached.First thing i figure out what your budget is.You may be suprised at what things cost these days as far as building materials and additions etc.I am still suprised at some of the estimates i do on just materials for some larger projects.Things this year just cost a crap load from gas prices alone. So be sure you figure out your budget before getting to far

The entire pole-barn structure is cheaper. Sheet metal is pretty dam cheap compared to OSB/tyvex/siding/brick/stucco... And lets not even get into the roofing equation sheet metal vs (osb/tar paper/ice-water shield/shingles/gutters. And yes we haven`t even touch the foundation here.

I suggested the idea of a pole building and after its up we can pour the concrete for the floor/lifts. Price range 20k ish. Manor road is 5 minutes away from me I live on Baldwin around Hess road and orchard lakes. NHRA Crazy, thats the kind of building were looking for, something simple to get the job done but enough looks to compliment the house and not look like an eyesore.

You should check with Balt. Co. zoning & your Homeowners Association (if there is one where you live)
to see if you can erect a pole building on your property first.
