I'm just curious, what is the exact recipe for a WRX to run mid 12s under warranty for $500 in mods? Is that requiring an extremely abusive launch which the dealer may frown upon?

I was under the impression they were low 13 second cars at-best with just a tune. Am I mistaken?

Apparently Slow Sedan runs 10s on street tires with just bolt ons and a tune. Its what he claims on mdss. I also dont know what he considers boltons though

It can do 12s fairly easily, but definatly not for $500. Call it around $1000 and yes, but then again it depends on that old sayn' you get what you pay for.

I'd say you need exhaust and tune at the least. That's also doing a decent drop with the clutch and a decent driver.

**Dealer won't notice some of the ECU upgrades if you pick the right ones. Hence dealer okay with it.

Also, if you live up here in New England and drive it as a DD, the paint WILL turn to terd. They are fairly solid for a DD if you don't mod it and race it a ton. My first STi lasted 130,000 miles before I had turbo problems. I did about 100,000 full bolt on pushing 20psi. My second STi lasted 95,000 with around 75,000 modded pushing 19psi, then I cracked 3 pistons, totally blew the 4th to bits. LOL

A buddy of mine has a 2009 WRX with k&n intake, downpipe, catback, and tune for 19psi (I think ) and he ran a 12.8 at 104 mph launching at 5000rpm on street tires.

I have driven the car and it is fun. Short gearing, AWD, and really good handling.

I'm sure they are fun cars and the AWD makes them stop light warriors but what fun is that if the drivetrain isn't up to snuff? I would expect a Cobalt SS to run at least 6 more MPH given equal mods and handle better as per all of the VIR tests in the wine & cheese mags. The Cobalt will get better mileage, should handle and brake better, and be significantly faster at anything other than a short stop-light race.

I understand the allure of the WRXs, I just think the Cobalt SS is the better car. I'd like to drive both, I've never owned anything like either car before.

If the Cobalt SS/TC could get traction, then yes it would be much faster. I'm definitely not an import lover or anything, I was just trying to give my experience with the 09 WRX.

P.S. The paint on the WRX does suck. Scratches and chips super easy.

I have a Cobb accessport and a 3" catless downpipe. Ran 12.6@109 with an easy launch. It ran low 13's bone stock in 104 degree heat.

I said stock block and I do run on DOT approved tires. Everything is bolted on except for the cam and even it just slide in there

I guarantee I haven't spent more then $500 on it... actually $479 to be exact. I told my dealer my mods and about racing it, they are totally ok with it.

Well just drove 2 Cobalts both supercharged. Actually looked at 3 total.

Love the seats and they drive real nice.

1st one didnt waste my time because it had a A/F guage in the pod and other issues I was not happy with

2nd one was completely stock and had 42,000 miles but had the black/red interior which im not crazy about

3rd one was modded, had cold air, pulley, and exhaust.. it made at least 5lbs more boost then the stock car but ran really good. I wouldnt know if it was tuned. The stealership wanted to give me peanuts for my truck so i walked out before I even asked the asking price.

I really enjoyed driving them...just going to have to sell my truck by private sale to make it happen!

$13,500 buys my TBSS

Seems like prices in New England are much higher. Seen some in the NJ area that are much cheaper.

How did you pay $479 and get the AP and 3in catless?? The AP alone cost $750 and a catless system is at least the same price, and that's only middle of the road pricing.

Regional pricing does vary, supply and demand, options, economy and all that Jazz.

Just as a reference, I bought a 2007 Jayco Eagle 264 trailer as we camp and go it for a killer deal. Barely used, kept extremely clean, retired CT cop owned it. Comes with a paid site for the season, all stoned area, shed, so much more, needs nothing, and a aftermarket awning frankly they never even took a crap in it.

We paid 11k done and I am still seeing dealers wanting $19 to $22k just for the trailer and no extras. We could not say no. They had to liquidate and we jumped on it.

Craigslist... they aren't wear items so I purchased them used. There are tons of these items available on the forums, craigslist, ebay, etc.. Kinda silly to pay that much for new.

I laughed when I saw the wastegate is blocked off from the factory, horrible flow! No wonder the downpipe adds so much power, probably did that as an easy way to lower the power rating from the STI.

Life long investment, I'll talk you more in depth but lets say thank god for retired people. You can only imagine some of the cars I see for my customers. I'd love to offer cash for them!!
