Default Thinking about going to Koon's Ford?

OK, well probably not as this is a GM forum, but I was all set to pick up a new 5.0.

We had the figures worked out over email, so I drove the 2 hours from PA to Sterling, VA. When I got there they noticed that the lower rocker of my passenger side had been resprayed (for stone chips). It was a good job and done by a pro shop...also my car is black, which is easy to blend. They immediately told me they would value my trade at $4k less. Of note, it has a Clean vehicle history.

Specifically they offered me $26k initially and dropped it to $22k. While it's not gospel, fair KBB on my car is around 27k. My car is beautiful other than average stone chips for the miles. No mods or issues.

I walked, I think they thought because I drove so far they'd have me over a table....I just feel it was an extremely dishonest thing to do.

To add to the shitstorm, I got stuck for 3 hours while 270 was closed for a gas line break.

If it is... Subaru paint is the thinist **** in the world. Light btu it chips SO easy. Well known issue. Its why they all run around with those rally mudflaps on.

Why did you go ALL the way to Koons?

yeah, current is the STI. I went to Koons because the agreed upon price was very desirable for the car that I wanted. Also truth on the thin subaru paint.

Used to be LegacyGTBiggie.... And had a 05 LGT with about stage 2.5 on it. So I know a good bit about subarus. Also worked for Racecomp engineering for a couple of weeks as well.

All dealerships play that game. Especially if they know your trading in a car. SHouldnt let that out until LATE in teh game. Because sure we will drop the price 3 grand for you... But they do that knowing they are going to short change your trade in.

Sadly, they were pretty much on par for Manheim pricing. I guessed your mileage at about 26000(if that's far off, let me know). Their initial offer was between average and below average sale pricing at auction. Their second offer was low by about 2k with a repaint. Even though it's a quality repaint, it has to be listed when selling at auction. So, once they found the repaint, they were looking to make between 1k-3k at auction. Or more depending on mileage.

if it was that good of a paint job, how'd they notice?

just kidding, but yeah that really sucks. hope you find a good deal locally. I decided if I were to buy a new "muscle" car it would be a mustang, I just can't see myself in a new camaro.

Resprayed only one side....so one side still has some stone chips.

So what am I supposed to do if I want to trade this in somewhere and get a reasonable price? (and not on another subaru)

"Reasonable" is going to be tough when used in the same sentence as "trade-in". Where ever you trade it in, they are going to want to make money on it, by either flipping it on their used lot, or taking it to auction. You could try a different dealer, and hope they don't see the respray. Some times, taking a trade to a dealer after dark has it's benefits. If they don't use lamps, it will be harder to see the respray.

Do you have a daily driver? Why not just sell the STI yourself and then have more money to put towards a new ride?
