CT Emissions Question
Hey everyone. Just bought a 94 Camaro Z28 from a guy in NY. He cut off the muffler, so I bought a muffler from Summit and installed it myself. Will I be ok for emissions now? It's a 94 so it has OBDI, so I don't think they're going to check for codes, they'll just run a sniffer right? Also, will they have a safety inspection since it's from out of state?
Thanks
Thanks

The factory cats are still there. In the short future I plan on getting pacesetter lt's, a catted y, and a catback; will that pass emissions?
Thanks for your answers.

So I got it tested, and it failed today. I don't know why. I have stock manifolds, both catalytic converters, and a muffler on the car. I think the previous owner messed with the computer.
Here were my results:

What I can tell you is most likely those CATs are blown out. Once you have it apart, take a pic and lets see how they look.
What I would start with is a basic tune up which is plugs, wires, fuel system cleaner, and other things a 150k+ vehicle needs. This is just good business.
Then since you need to pass the sniffer, have '93 octane in the car and a few bottles of rubbing alcohol, it will help clear out the tank and clean out the combustion chambers, injectors, and keep those plugs clean. Also run the hell out of the car to get it nice and HOT since cats work best that way and get to the shop earliest to get in first. Hotter the better.
Muffler does nothing to scrub out emissions and if you have lights you may have other issues. Kinda wished you had posted this BEFORE going as we can help you but once you fail, you HAVE TO FIX IT.
The issue I see is you had not mentioned if the car had been modified and if it has, with what!? PCM certainly could have been messed with and a clean reflash would be optimal but if it does have stuff done to it, it may not run right still. I would think a little more info would be benefical to you and your issue.

To be honest I don't know a whole lot about the car. I bought it a couple weeks ago. All the car has is a cold air intake. Everything else is stock. I looked at the plugs yesterday, and they look good, yet I don't think they've ever been changed.

So far I think it's the cat. I'll try and look at it tomorrow. I'm going to change the plugs and wires, run some seafoam in the fuel tank to clean the injectors, run mopar combustion chamber cleaner to get rid of the excess carbon buildup, and replace the cat. I should also go over the EGR valve and O2 sensors correct?
Thanks for all your help guys.

i would start with the simple things first, tune up, seafoam, mopar top end cleaner and then go retest..
also get that code checked so you know what that is about
i believe its free to retest a failed car so i would go back and retest before spending money on a cat...thats my opinion
