nicccceeee. Road bikes are so much fun. Have you been on a fixed gear yet? Those are tons of fun.

You definitely get a workout on a fixie because you can't stop pedaling. If you stop you can kiss the skin on your shins good bye

What are the benefits of a single speed bike? Wouldn't it just suck on hills?

They are super efficient and reliable since there are less moving parts. I have an old Schwinn converted to fixed gear and a Giant Defy 1 with 105 parts as well. Nothing like a road bike!

I had both a road bike (still have it actually, it's sitting right behind me in my kitchen LOL) and a fixed gear/track bike way back in my cycling/racing days, very few velodromes around to really enjoy the track bike though.
I actually won a bronze metal in the 3000 meter pursuit and 4th in the points race at the New Jersey State Championships (held at Trexlertown (now Lehigh Valley Velodrome) in PA) back in the early '80s.

Yes, nearly impossible on hills as it's not just a fixed gear but often a very steep gear as well.
And here are some of the benefits:

Wow Marc, u raced at Trexlertown... Now Lehigh Valley Velodrome
Thats pretty cool bro, u must've been THE MAN back then.

I dont expect to be doing any real racing, a fixie is nice and they do make versions that free wheel now but a fixie is IMHO not that great for what I am doing...

EG hills programs, rides for different cause's
I like the multi gear bikes, I might buy a fixie for winter indoor training..

I am doing the MS-75 Sept 29th
I am setting up a donation site and maybe u guys might wanna donate 2 to 10 bucks
I need to raise 300.00 by Sept 25th...

Stay tuned for the link

My team name (3 so far) is called Team Serene

If you haven't already got it download strava. One of my favorite apps. It tracks your rides and best times on different segments. Over 1500 miles on my Cannondale this summer. Anyone want to fight hills in manayunk let me know.
