What is the best 1911 to carry?
#21
So easy to shoot and have great "knock down power" with the big 230 grain slug. Plus its muzzle velocity isnt extreme so the chances of the slug going right thru the assailant are less. Also helps with the recoil.
People say they rnt as reliable as say a glock but ive read numerous reviews of the SR1911 having 2000 rounds through it with no or minimal issues

I never had to pull my gun BUT did show it to a driver on the highway. I was on the bike and someone cut me off in between my bike with my daughter on back and my wife on hers bike in front of me . there wasnt enough room ,he just made it . then he tried lane jockeying then tried to squeeze me out gain at 80 mph . Long story short i pulled up my shirt to show him i wasnt playing , he hit the brakes hard and never saw him again
I am also a rider, and been doing so since 1974 (yep, 49 yr. old MF'er here), and one of the first things I learned on a street bike, was not to play "tag" with cars on the highway. If you were by yourself, and wanted to play Billy Badass by flashing your gun, is one thing, but doing so with your family around you was pretty ******* stupid IMHO...Nowadays it would be no surprise for that knucklehead in that random car to run you the **** over for flashing your pistol at him...Don't be stupid...oh, and Merry Christmas.
P.S. Sig is what I'd have, but....No concealed or open carry for 99.9% of us here in Maryland. If I get cutoff, like we all do on a bike, then I can only make the pistol sign with my fingers, or let them know what's on my mind at the next redlight...lol.

I respect your opinion but have you ever rode on 81 ? I know you have its right threw md and pa (where im from) 80 during rush hour is just about the normal speed limit . I agree with not playing tag with a car but when theres no where to go and they are trying to push you out of the way , Ill do what i have to . It was not just one being cut off ,as i said to make a long story short . It was several times and him riding my *** for a few miles . Not being billy bad *** just stuck in a bad spot with no where to go .
Sorry you live in a communist state and have to use your fingers or let them know whats on your mind at the next light so they can run you over when it turns green . One reason i would never live in MD ,even though i can spit on the PA/MD line from my house lol
Merry Christmas to you to

The Springfield XDM 3.8 in 9mm is another good choice, comes with 19 round magazines. I would feel well armed with 19 rounds of 147gr. HST ammo. The weapon has a full size grip, but is compact enough to carry, and they shoot very well. This is a very easy weapon to shoot fast and accurate with.
I am not a big fan of Ruger semi-auto handguns, especially the SR series of guns. I have a lot of information in reference to the testing of these weapons, if you want more info., send me a PM.

That's exactly what I'm looking at as my very next pistol purchase as well, still very difficult to find them though even after being out for almost two years now.
I likely wouldn't be carrying it though as getting a CCW/CWP here in NJ is almost impossible.
If it ever does get passed though I have my new little Beretta Nano for a more comfortable carry pistol.
I really wanted an M&P Shield (I have an M&P 9mm full size already) and still do, but like the ultra popular SR1911 it too is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to locate/buy hence why I broke down and finally bought the Nano last month.
The Nano is VERY nice as well though, so tiny yet still shoots like a much larger pistol, especially with the new 8 round magazines.

How big are you guys? LOL
I print with a G17 with a CompTac A-IWB holster in summer cloths.
I could never carry a 1911 and a compact one. I need something like a SW Shield... of M&P9 Compact...

Just wondering how you come to the conclusion that the 1911 isnt a good carry gun ? our military used them for years . It is big and bulky but with the right holster they are fine . not a cheap 25 dollar holster lol . I also carry a sig 22 while hiking , its small ,compact and light . just not a lot of knock down power
In the military we carry pistols on our hip or leg holster. Unless you live in an open carry state I wouldn't get a 1911. I like the guns don't get me wrong just don't think its a carry piece. Rather heavy very big and I bet that steel gets cold! or hot! I say XDm subcompact or something like that. Get a 1911 to have as a nice gun to shoot on the weekends. You want light small and plastic to concel.

im not quite sure. I believe it is mag capacity but i know they are illegal in mass. right now the plan is a Ruger SR1911 or if they come out with a compact or commander 4" barrell 1911 i'll get that. and also a Ruger SR22 to plink and a Ruger SR9c to carry. I heard in the winter time a 1911 isn't too bad to carry yes it is big and heavy but it is thin and with the right holster you can carry it inside the waiste. we will see. I plan to carry the SR22 on my ankle at all times as a backup.

I would definitely consider carrying a 1911 but only in a more 'traditional' type of shoulder holster and only in the winter under a coat or heavy sweatshirt.
But summer carry would likely only be something 'tupperware' and much smaller.
Again, only if this silly state allowed it of course.
I'd considered an XDS for my 'small gun' as well, but the cost of .45ACP ammo is so freakin' high that I really want to limit myself to just one .45 cal pistol as I know I won't be shooting/practicing with it as much as with my 9s LOL.
Plus the idea of a potent round like that in such a small frame (especially during a potentially 'panicked/adrenaline pumping' self defense situation) is still a concern of mine. But please let's not take this off into the whole 9mm versus .40 versus .45 debate LOL.

LOL, I was just looking at the LCP (and the Kel-Tec P3AT) again last night online, those are the true 'pocket carry' pistols and .380 can get the job done too. Though I personally still feel that 9mm should be the 'minimum' for a self defense round.
I do like the idea of pocket carrying as well but I think my Nano might just be a little 'too big' for the Levi's that I usually wear.
