What is the best 1911 to carry?

I have the tuarus PT1911 and love it, never had a glitch or hiccup . Its also my carry gun . I use a comptac Minotaur MTAC Holster and i barley know its there. For the money i think the tuarus is the best value in 1911s

I have several Taurus hand guns. Never had a problem with them. I also have a Ruger P90 that I carry. It's a little big, but it works. As for a 1911, I have an Argentinian Ballester-Molina .45 from 1938 that is basically a Colt rip off. Love that gun, but I don't have another 1911 to compare it to.

Been doing a bit of research, and I've gathered from general consensus that a 1911 isn't a great carry piece.
They are very fine guns, but can be a little less reliable (from anecdotes I've read) than some of the more modern designs in regard to feeding / ejecting rounds. Also they're kind of big.
Proper solution: get a slightly cheaper carry piece (I'm currently eying an XDs) and a 1911. You can never have too many guns.

Just wondering how you come to the conclusion that the 1911 isnt a good carry gun ? our military used them for years . It is big and bulky but with the right holster they are fine . not a cheap 25 dollar holster lol . I also carry a sig 22 while hiking , its small ,compact and light . just not a lot of knock down power

I would def stay away from tauras.. i have a smith 1911 and love it.. Just to big for carry and thats illegal here anyway.. If i had to carry i would def go with some sort of 9mm.. glock, berretta nano or sig.. The smaller the better when it comes down to a carry weapon

Here is my take from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, not internet hearsay.
You need to create your own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
Any good name brand will work. Colt, Springfield, Sig, HK, Beretta, Taurus, HiPoint, Kimber, Ruger, etc.
The problems I have seen with handguns is usually the AMMO. Cheap ammo will make a great gun look horrible.
I have owned most of the guns above or shot them.
If you are a big guy then you can about anything under your arm, except for maybe a Magnum Research or a Hipoint as they are both BIG guns.
A standard frame Colt is really not that big, definitely not wide, maybe a little longer.
Alot of the carry specific guns are just a shorter version of the standard frame.
GO to the range and SHOOT. Get a good holester for the gun that you like at the range.

I never had to pull my gun BUT did show it to a driver on the highway. I was on the bike and someone cut me off in between my bike with my daughter on back and my wife on hers bike in front of me . there wasnt enough room ,he just made it . then he tried lane jockeying then tried to squeeze me out gain at 80 mph . Long story short i pulled up my shirt to show him i wasnt playing , he hit the brakes hard and never saw him again
as 54inches said its mostly in the ammo . I had a 9mm that jammed every 3 or 4 rounds with walmart ammo . Never jammed with my buddies ammo he loads by hand

I have 8 1911's, they are my favorite guns. I carry a Wilson Combat everyday. But for something in the lower price range I'd have a STI, Springfield, or Colt on my side. 1911's are like high end cars, finicky and parts really matter. Those that tell you they don't havent shot enough rounds through them.
