Seekonk Speedway 2013 Spectator Drags
Finally had my break-out year last year! I dropped 1.5 seconds off my lap time to dip into the 19's of the big boys.
What was my secret?
Octane booster. Yep. My motor had been detonating for years.
Check me out at 13:35
While I'm still waiting for the frame to be straightened from the 2nd race with the Ford Lightning (first is at 13:35 of the above video) you can see in that video the only thing that's held me back: my launches.
When I was detonating, I took alot of timing out of my programming below 3000rpm. I launch at 3000rpm. If my rpm dips to 2800, I bog down to 1000rpm. If I'm at 3000-3200rpm, I am as fast as any AWD car off the launch. I'll have the timing added back so hopefully my launches are more consistent.
Good launch:
Here's a bad launch:
another bad launch
I should have been all over that AWD Eclipse...
My goal is to place this year. I'm going to get wider front tires and lighten the car up a bit. I want a constent 19.0 lap. I've only seen 3 cars do faster than 19.0: that eclipse has dipped to 18.5 but not consistently, Mike Vincent's 3000GT VR4TT(high 17's even) and Al Amarate's LT1 Camaro.
I look forward to the challenge! ...and yep still rocking a lowly 3.4L Fiero

They have been pretty 'lax with the rules lately other than having a current inspection sticker...
Interesting that you chose the 944:
-it's curb weight is the same as my 1987 Fiero GT
-it has deep rear wheel wells for large tires
-near 50/50 weight balance
Sounds like you have the potential of a potent car with the addition of the LS1...
My 44f/56r balance definitely helps with my launches so yours should be pretty good too.
Looking forward to seeing it!

The red Miata is a convertable but it has to race with the hardtop on.
I talked to the collision/body shop today and the owner got backed up with work due to the holidays and snow storm. I gave him a drop-dead deadline of April 1st as to when I need the car back in order to do weight reduction and further tuning to have it ready by Memorial Day weekend.

in the labor day race of 2011, I beat the turbo summit when my motor was running like ****, but good enough when cold... Luckily it was the 1st round (cold motor) and I had a good launch and he had a horrible launch:

I've been trying to stay away from having to turbo my car. I don't need that much more power and when I did run a 3.1 turbo in my other Fiero, I was doing 19second laps in the first round and 21 second laps in the 4th round since once that sucker gets hot I was losing alot of timing. If you look up Seekonk Speedway Fiero, you'll see some videos from 2007 when I had it. It was a KKK K3 turbo from a Volvo on a Fiero V6 stroked to 3.1L... 8psi...
In the first round, I warmed up my tires and spun myself out in place. Like way too much power when cold, LMAO!

LOL, I had a Buick ESC module connected to a knock sensor and my ignition.
It was a total hack, but it worked. Well, to about 4500RPM anyway, then the turbo was too small for the motor or my injectors couldn't keep up...well, it was probably my injectors thinking back to what I know now...
I have a T3 lying around ... at some point I will get the top half replaced with the T4 to make a hybrid. I'd like to mount it down low just before the pipe bends to where the stock (if I had a stock exhaust) catalytic converter would be and that puts it near the side air vent so I could just throw an air filter on it. Then I could mount an intercooler just under the left engine grill then straight into the throttlebody... Of course I'd also like to rig up a separate oiling system for it too...

Finally got my car back from the collision shop this past week. They couldn't see frame damage, just shifted body panels it seems.
New front driver's side spindle and arms and new wheel bearing installed.
New 275/35-17's ordered for the back, moving the 275/40-17's to the front; I need to get my RPM's up on the back straightaway because I haven't been hitting my peak there...
Getting an alignment and under-drive pulley installed by the end of the week.
I intend to be a force to be reckoned with this year. ;-)
