Default Should I Buy This Truck?

http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/cto/3566594562.html

Will be used to tow my car to and from the ltx shootut in Kentucky from mass and other racing trips and to tow my sleds up north. Also would be my daily driver. I am not a huge fan of red but dont mind it. Mileage looks great. Just weary of why its so cheap.

Its cheap because the 6ltr diesels are junk.. Do not buy it. If you want a ford stick to the older 7.3 motor.

Keyword in the ad is "vehicle is at a repair shop". 6.0s have issues with blowing head gaskets. ARP head studs usually fixes the problem.

huge no no, my cousin had one nothing but issues. Head gasket, EGR crap. The final straw was one night he said the whole dash went dark, truck was running but no gauges. The next day it was fine. He said he wasn't sinking any more money into it.

I have an 03 6.0 which is supposed to be the worst year. I bought it with 32k miles on it and it now has 147... It had a programmer on it literally the day i bought it. I beat the **** out of it and have not had too many problems with it. So for everyone who says they are junk most of the time is just hear say. I did head studs/gaskets on mine and replaced a few injectors over the years but i dont feel the truck treated me bad at all. I still love it 6 years later....

Is that truck a lariat? Also find out what the dealer just did to it and let me know.

6.0 fords aren't as bad as people think, but they do have some issues in factory form.Once these issues are fixed the 6.0 can be just as reliable as other diesels.check out powerstroke.org

Also heard back things about the 6.0 Ford Diesel. My cousin has had one for about a year now. No serious problems yet except a blown rearend.

Go on powerstroke.org and click through the stickys in the 6.0 section. You need an egr delete, to check the oil temp and coolant temp split, if it is more than 15 you need a new oil cooler. The head gaskets fail due to leaking oil coolers letting mousture in the combustion chambers causing increased cylinder pressure stretching the 4 tty head bolts per cyl, or egr valve clogging the variable vanes in the turbo causing over boost. There are only 4 bolts per cyl, and the tty bolts are too weak.

6.0s are garbage in stock form but with about 2k into em they can last just as long as any well performing diesel.. Egr delete is probably the first thing that should be done. Check out some of the power magazine articles as well as powerstroke.org

Hey Tony, stay away from that one man! If its the same truck, I remember it from seeing it sitting off rte 123 for almost 2-3 months already. With the fifth wheel it's more than likely seen some hard hauling. Wouldn't be surprised if it was used for picking up auction vehicles. And yeah, avoid the 6.0L, had a F350 for the utility co that I worked for in Boston and that thing was the biggest pile in the yard, even worse than the Daewoo skid steer.

Do not buy that year truck. From like 03-05 nothing but problems with that dieseal. I know to people who had to replace the turbos and another the engine. Ford makes great trucks but for some reason that year period was plagued with issues. Even if it is running good now. Just stay away...
Ps: I like ford trucks so not a brand guy but do like gm ls cars over mustangs

Exactly.... I ******* hate when people are like my brothers sisters uncles dads gf had one and said it was junk.

Ive had a few things go wrong with mine but nothing that i thought was out of the ordinary and the truck never left me stranded and ive put over 110k miles on it my self. I still love it after 6 years... Which is hard bc usually i get bored after a year or so.

I just laughed my *** off!

Most 6.0L that break are from driver's neglect of maintenance and care. Proper maintenance, they are fine! Mine tows my racecar for years, no problem. It's also tuned!
