Default '95 Eldorado daily driver question...

I'm posting this here because I figure most of you here have a good automotive background, might actually have some experience with the Eldorado's and actually live in New England. My question is this, I have an uncle who might sell his '95 Eldorado to me for cheap. Does anybody know how good Eldorado's are in the winter? And what about reliability and maintenance? It has about 57K miles on it and has been taken care of. Are '95 Eldorado's prone to problems, or should I be ok? Thanks fo the help.

My brother has a 97 and the car is aswome in the snow. That car goes like a tank. As far as I know they have a few comon problems. Keep an eye on the oil level, they tend to have bad gaskets. Rear brake and fuel lines rub against the frame under the driver rear tire. Had to splice both brake lines. He just had to replace the fuel rail due to the nylon hose leaking. There is a recall for that. My brothers car has 130k on it so his has more mileage. I think it is a really nice car for everyday. He absolutley loves it, so I hope this helps.

Thumbs up

I had a '96 Deville Concour (basically a bigger 4 door version of the Eldo ETC) and it was great in the snow, on cheapo all season tires I was still passing everyone, going like 40-50mph in deep snow on the highway, car was a champ.
And yes the earlier Noerthstars sometimes drank a little oil but otherwise it was damn good car. Fast too, that huge car ran a 15.07@92.40 with only a K&N air filter added.

I have a '97 Deville with 53k. I use this as a beater/winter car. It gets great gas mileage and no oil leaks from mine but I've heard they are pretty common with the Northstar motors. As mentioned it's quick for a big car but I found the fuel shut-off at 112 MPH. I've only driven it once in the snow. It handled it fine.

My 95 Cadillac Deville had a 4.9 Litre engine a 300 ci version. Does the 95 Eldorado come only with the North Star engine? Mine shut down at somewhere in the 111-119 mph zone. I think 118 though, could be wrong about 118..maybe it was 112. Mine had 60kish miles when I sold it & the only thing I had a problem with was the ride control malfunction which had me swap out the front struts to regular struts & get rid of the electronics. It actually is a Cadillac service fix. Thought I might let you know the 95 Caddy's had two engines offered, Fred

My friend Noyzee's mom has an Elderado for a winter car.She swears by that thing.I've been in it in the snow, very sturdy. I know Noyzee loves that car in the snow. He talks about it every winter.

Ok thanks alot guys. I'm hopefully going to be able to check it out soon, been busy with the holidays and work. Just a question, what would be the big difference between an ETC and a regular Eldo? I'm not too sure which one it is, didn't even think to ask at the time.

Ok cool. Also, what about maintenance and reliability? Considering you have first hand experience, your opinion carries a bit more weight. I currently have a daily driver, but recently it's been giving me problems and I figure it'd be best to get another one. I understand it will be a 10 year old car so problems may arise, but if the Eldorado's have a good track record then I'll pobably pick it up. Thanks again.

IT's a used car so things can happen. But my brother has had his for almost 2 years now and no major problems. Like I said his car has over a 100k so it needed maintence. Plugs, wires, filters, o2 sensor. Oh like Noyzee's my brother has 18's. It gave the car a nicer ride and looks bad ***.

My mothers was bought with 15k miles on it in 95, its a 93. it has a tad over 50k on it now. It has had 1 new starter at about 40k, and one of the mufflers had a crack, so i did a custom dual setup, we did all the brakes at about 45k just to be safe, and we have a code on the ride control which was checked and working fine, so why it comes on now and then is a mystery. other then that the car has been great. knock on wood. very happy with it. it was my mothers daily car till she got the jag, now the caddy sits all summer and is driven all winter. poor thing.
