Default How do you cammed guys pass inspection in NJ?

I heard that some NJ inspection sites will sometimes do a sniffer now, but just do a cpu scan for any codes. Will the private shops just do a cpu scan now, or will they put the sniff and car on the dyno?

Anyone know where to go if they do in fact only do the cpu scan so I can go there too?

Thanks!

If your car has OBD II (and it does) all you have to do is pass the scanner test. Older cars get the sniffer.

a friend of mine that i helped tune out codes for when to a local inspection station(state) passed the readiness tests but failed the visual...at least make sure you have cats before you go to a state place...even some shops dont wanna touch cars with no cats from what ive heard.

Lots of shops don't want to mess with catless cars anymore. I quit trying to get a sticker and just filed under collector's registration. Good luck.

Yep, just the plug in and the visual...your cats could be empty, but as long as they're there, and the PCM thinks all is well (done with tuning software), you're good to go.

I pay a mechanic to do the inspection. He passed my old LT1 without even making a comment.

Make sure you have cats on the car... or they atleast look like cats.. and then make sure there are no codes. in NJ all they are going to do is a visual and then plug in and check for codes, if u have no codes, and it appears that all the emmision control equiptment is on and working you will pass no prob

You filed your car under under collector's registration?? How did you do this, and what does it require? How much insurance are you paying now for this?

for collectors inspection...you need to get the car insured as a collector vehicle....theres several requirements but in nj..one is less than 3k a year.

then all you have to do is just register the car as a collector...then show up to the back of an inspection station, they check your odometer...and thats it.

i was looking into this last year...i may have left a couple things out..but thats all i can think of.
