How about street car vs race car? Alex is driving his car from East Brunswick NJ to High Point NC this Thursday to come visit. For those of you keeping score at home, thats ~ 525 miles.

offaxis,

I remember seeing your car at Atco back when I had my Formy. It was very very impressive, you were running low 11s on worn nittos on a less-then-stellar track day....

The only thing keeping my car from being a street car is the car is not insured or has an inspection. I would have no problem driving my car through NYC changing tires and making some 10 second passes down the track. But I have broken enough times to know better not to drive my car to the track with the chances of breaking something.

I will also do my best to get the car back up in weight to run Alex. Just to let everyone know this is a frendly race and both cars are going to be winners..

The breaking issue is legit. But no one can argue that a TH350 with convertor is going to be as streetable as a T56. I'm an auto guy but....

And yes both cars are extremely impressive....

Pete,

You expect me to believe that driving a car in 1:1 [3rd gear] at 60 MPH 3300 RPM is streetable? 3000rpm with 28" tires [calculations with 4.11 gears]

I know your car is fast, no doubt, but it is not a street car.

But I agree with you, I am hopeing this to be a friendly race, something we have joked about happening for years!

Come on now.. I'm gonna drive my th400'd car aorund, with 4.10s... just not too far

Car's in the 60's had no overdrive, and the world still drove. Burnt alot more gas to get anywhere, but still drove around.

I'm not sure but how many cars in the '60s had spools, no heat, and a loose torque convertor?

Both cars are very impressive, all I am saying is that while neither car would be my first choice to take on a long drive, Alex's car is more suited for that.

At this level of performance I'd say that doesn't carry a whole lot of weight but it is worth 'something' imo.

I dunno how many had spools, loose converters or no heat... but I know they had vinal seats and no a/c, ... and they had big blocks that got about 8 mpg when any type of performance stuff was done, and were commonly equipped with 3.73, 4.10 and in some cases even higher gears with tires no taller then 26 inches... not my idea of a car to drive from here to florida in either, but alot of people used to.

Being able to take long trips in the car, that's cool I agree... I'd just be too worried about something that got broke at the track deciding to show up on a trip that's all... anyone that races knows how that works. Car's don't generally break backing out of the garage, or just putting down the road to get a gallon of milk, but I'm sure you probably know someone that took their car to the track at one point, and all of a sudden had a catastrophic failure while doing nothing stressful.. sometimes parts break, and just decide not to let you know for a while.

It shouldn't be too difficult, maybe a full tank of fuel (could be a traction advantage even ), the seats back in, maybe full size fronts etc. Could even it up a bit. Maybe not use that transbrake as well?

Both cars ARE impressive and this thread has been going smoothly and remaining amicable thus far, it would be nice to keep it that way.
