I think cyclone's were made because GM wanted to make a truck that would put the old original ford lightning in it's place. And if memory serves me right, it did that.

The syclone was built in 1991... the first lightning wasn't sold until 1993... Maybe I'm wrong though

I could be wroong on that, I remember something about the cyclone being GMs answer to something I could have sworn it was hte lightning that ford came out with, it might have been that they were both a concept and GM beat for into production I don't really know.... too long ago to remember in any detail.

Funny part about about the cyclone/typoon was that it said right on the window sticker "not for offroad use, onroad use only"... which was kinda contradictory at the time being that it had awd.

I can recall very clear however, a kid I went to high school who's dad bought one... he took it to school and did some AWD donuts in the parking lot with it one day before school started.... was awesome to see the look on people's faces when they saw the marks that left. Very odd sensation being in that thing doing donuts too, not like a normal car.

its like a jr dragster, not everyone likes to race a rwd car, some people like there kids racing that, and some people enjoy sledding so much they race them, or maybe cannot afford a car, so they use there sled year round.

I joke around with my boyfriend all the time about driving a FWD car, but he's most likely going to be running times close to mine this year (unless I improve my driving considerably). I won't be laughing much anymore if his car runs better ETs than me this year. His SRT4 hauls *** and I have a lot of respect for it.
The owner of where he works too races snowmobiles all the time. The power and the times that thing put out blew my mind

but yhea, its scary how fast some of the fwd cars run. a fwd car is the biggest reason i put spray on the vett!!
the bastered almost beat me, and he was 10 pounds of boost shy of what he ussually runs!!! i knew i had to do somthing

Yea that was me going low 11's. The crazy fast lightning is my dad. Haha. Can you send me a video of that race??? My dad normally runs 10.50's in that and i normally run 10.80's . the DA was a whopping 2400....
I ended up winning too. We had a "package race" It was the first time it was used in the country i guess. Its neat because i could kill the tree everytime and if you went red it just figures out how far from perfect you were and added it to how far you were from your dial for your package. I liked it, and won haha. $400!!!!

yea the da was 2400, the LVD timeslips give you the DA now. 11.0's wasnt bad considering the track and i was only letting it out at 1800rpms. was going for consistency. I knwo it will go 10.70's easily when i remember to put air in the air bag. Haha. forgot to at NED 2 weeks ago but still ran 10.80's with a 1.49 60'. Another thing that messed me up at LVD is the lack of water in the water box. It makes the line lock like not work. Oh well, im not complaining. I did win!!!

427SS yes i will get the tape to a digital file and post it for you soon, your car and that Lightning side by side....wow! whats the spec on the truck? yeah LVD was a tad slow once again what pissed me off is they still have not fixed those stupid display lights! dont they have a ladder and a few bucks for new bulbs?


Jason (JL-ws6) no hard feelings on my part i just wanted you to see how stupid looking people are who type out pure negativity on other vehicles (like you typically do on FWD cars and how i did on your car above), it was to show you how moronic it looks.....seems the majority of folks chiming in above disagree with your frozen-in-the-past opinion on the diversity of fast cars we see these days like FWD and AWD.

in race year 2004, after you spent 10 times more on your LS1 car than i did on my FWD car, my best ET and 60 foot times out performed your WS6, yet you still wouldnt give credit to a better built car. thats when i began to see you go from a car-guy to a LS1-only guy, not good.

you're a smart guy, come with the rest of us to enjoy ALL fast vehicles and the owners who build and race them, you will not be sorry.

now go finish your 10 second WS6 i know you will.

I'll tell every one of them that they are star trek convention goers, all day long.... you should know be better then that.

Jealous of a car that will never hook on the street, and will be 2+ seconds off what I'll run on motor? Please. Get over your roller skate!

You used to have cool cars, and knew what it was about. But, at some point you reverted back to your mullet wearing days..... not sure what happened, but go hit your head again on whatever you hit it on that knocked you back 20 years.

I'm sure you will be hearing from him for some of your tuning expertise w/this 3600 lb. MTI/Texas, Speed Inc./Illinois - built car, Don. Some of the fastest 1/4 mi. F-body LS-type cars in the country are coming out of those places these days. As you know, 17 yr. old Justin is jumping right from my old low 12 sec. stocker to something w/considerably more oats, and seat time will do much more to help him reach his low 10.70's n.a. goal, which I'm quite confident the car has in it, pretty much just as it sits. They put new LED Bulbs in it i heard. The lightning has the ford gt 40 short block with a kenne bell supercharger. Not sure what boost he is running. But the thing weighs 4500 lbs with my dad in it. It has nitrous but hasnt been used yet. We may spray it to be the first FULL wieght 9 second lightning in the US. It was built by JDM Ford specialist. I just find it weird that some people buy a car and run it out without checking it over. Your 10.8's out of a 427 sounded suspicious of a problem.Now if it has a Nitrous tune that could explain it. I also still don't see what is so fun about racing the clock,wouldn't you like to have your car running ***** to the wall in low 10's rather than peddling the car?(reminds me of Pinks and car length starts )

Don, by the way, i know your an expert at tuning cars, dont take this personal, but didnt you tune dan's 427 from the cape? If i remember right that car was running 11.29's at NED on a low DA day. I remember watching it 2 or 3 times because my dad wanted to by it. Even if the DA was 2400, 11.29's are slower than 11.06 in the same Altitude.
My car WILL 1.47 when i have the suspesion tuned in.
By peddling my car i made $400. Theres not too many oppourtunities for a low 10second car to win heads up races.
