Default Finally something good about NJ

Went out to eat tonight, Saturday, and I didn't have to be asked if I wanted smoking or non-smoking. Now I despise the blantant payoff of politicians by the casino lobbyists that left them exempt from this rule as much as everyone else, but it's really nice to finally have fresh air when out in public. What a great site to see smokers finally inconvenienced by their habit instead of me and everyone else that values their bodies, instead of the other way around that it's been for years. I almost can't wait for the freezing winter to see them standing outside. Smoke 'em if you got 'em, just not around me!

Yea I live in AC and I knew when they 1st brought this up the Casinos were gonna be exempt but hey a few hundred thousand in some Politicians pocket never happened before Anyway it will be good to go eat somewhere and not have to smell freakin smoke. Now if only NJ could do something about the cost of property taxes, insurance etc...

Only when you come home you like damn i reak of smoke... Ahhhhh no more of that crap now, going to be nice. One of my aunts died of lung cancer and never smoked a day in her life. The thing she always did was go bowling in leagues various nights of the week.... Too bad the law wasnt around then...

I think the law is complete bullshit(and I'm not even a smoker). **** the government for once again getting all up in our daily lives. Yes, the law has some good points but what's next? Can eat greasy food?

I think it should be up to the establishment's owner. I know I'd be pissed if some douche nozzle politician tried telling me how to run my business. Making the casino exempt just shows how righteous this law really is

Also, yeah, people now are forced to smoke outside of the bar/restaraunt/etc which leads to more LITTER on PUBLIC sidewalks and :gasp: people are still going to be inhaling the smoke...but see these people are more innocent than those that CHOSE to go into that bar.

i'm not catching your drift. if they can tell you that you cant pull your ****-and-***** out in an establishment (fill-in bar or restaurant of choice) then why cant they tell you you cant smoke there.

One has nothing to do with the other. Whipping out your junk is indecent exposure lol. They basically saying a legalized substance is not permitted in a privately owned establishment. I guess that doesn't alarm anyone. Like I said the idea is great but if I was a bar owner I'd be pissed. I can make decisions for my patrons on my own. Now if the government wanted take say a 5 block radius and offer owners incentives to make their establishment smoke free then great, it still leaves the decision up to the establishment owner.

Everyone has the choice not to go into a smokey bar.

that statement is 100% wrong, why dont you tell me what bar i could have gone to that was smoke free, hum none so im forced to smell someone elses **** and cant do a damn thing about it but breath it in and hope i dont get cancer. This law has nothing to do about the goverment and has everything to do with people that dont smoke and are tired of being force to breath their crap which is known to cause cancer. How would you feal if you were at a bar and i ran up to you and sprayed you with perfume. Bet you wouldnt like that too much.

You know what? It does have to do with health...and for THAT part I agree. But if they were THAT serious about the public health then why are the casinos allowed to keep their smoking practices? Also, I have news for you, you're STILL going to be walking through clouds of smoke to get into and out of the establishments so where is the health concerns there?

I like I said, if they offered incentives for owners to maybe make that choice on their own, great. What's next? McDonald's can only sell fat free garden burgers?

Also, don't get me wrong, I think smoking is a nasty, filthy habbit and I'd never do it but last I check it's perfectly legal product.

It's always YOUR perogative whether you choose to patronize those establishments at all. Maybe they should outlaw coffee now too, since John doesn't like smelling it when he goes to the diner. Maybe they should outlaw curry because Bill doesn't want other patrons to be able to order those dishes around him and have to smell it. Maybe if people want bacon at IHOP they should have to eat it outside, since Mary can't stand the smell and it's thought to be associated with coronary diseases. It's ridiculous, and just one more way they're slowly taking all of our freedoms away.

It won't be an issue for long. They passed a similar bill in Mass, and most of the places just quietly went out of business. A lot of the restaurant and bar owners faced ongoing problems with people "going out for a smoke" and casually leaving instead of paying their bill. It goes beyond food too....my buddy's dad ran a pool hall successfully for 25 years. Packed every night....after the bill passed they'd be lucky to have 1 or 2 tables going. It was less than a year before they bit it, and now since my buddy couldn't afford to go to college anymore or dream of one day running the business, he works in the sporting goods deptartment at Wal-Mart.

I'm with frosty on this one, I think it should be up to the owner to decide (if there are more non-smokers than smokers coming to a establishment, and they don't like it then why wouldnt the owner ban smokeing? Its just good buisness)

One thing I like about going to PA is that you can smoke inside, would I want that every time I went out for a bite to eat? No because I really dont smoke that much... so I'd just go to places that don't alow smoking, how is that a big deal?

well whats going to happen when the money that us smokers is not spent in these places any longer? Guess your nonsmoking business will be out of business. sencond off when you stand at the raceway and all the burnt tire smoke and racing fuel is in the air I guess your not going to race anymore because its not good for your health and lungs. Don't forget the cigarette companies help Nascar and Drag Racing get there start. And by the way how crowed were these establishments? Thank god they can't tell you not to smoke outside. Smoking is permitted at all racing events.
