They showed it 1/2 a dozen times right after it happened....Just as he was going thru the traps, the car veered a little to the right. You saw the front wheels almost immediately turn left---almost an over-correct by Krisher, IMO. Then the car immediately jerked left, w/both rear slicks leaving the ground. Looked as though the right front tire was the only one touching the ground as the car went airborne. The drivers side door immediately left the car as the body twisted while the thing started its roll to the left. Car rolled twice, landed right side up, left rear quarter smacked the left lane wall pretty hard....Krisher had been in the right lane, V. Gaines, left lane. Gaines was just far enough ahead to not get tangled up w/Krisher. Krisher had the same type accident at a national event in Atlanta in '05. It's on the NHRA site. They had some real good footage of both cars coming down the track right at you on ESPN2. Krisher is a veteran. He has made numerous 6.50, 207mph passes in that Haas-built Valvoline car. His wife was standing on the starting line after staging him, watching his run and went totally beserk...They said he was knocked out initally, quickly came around and got out of the car under his own power. Fuel cell ruptured and car was engulfed in flames even before it came to a stop. The NHRA Safety Safari truck was there real quick to extinguish the fire. Truck driver cut the wheel so hard on the truck that 1 of the stainless steel 8 lug hubcaps went flying off...very impressive response to a firey, serious crash...WJ
