Dumped exhaust in MA

Dumped exhaust in MA As long as I keep my cats and have mufflers is it legal for me to have dumps before the axle?
I've searched and can't find jack.
What I have found googling is the following (from here :
It seems as long as you don't make the exhaust 'louder' which is pretty subjective. And don't increase pollution it doesn't state that where the exhaust exits is a concern.
Anyone have experience with this?

I do inspections and the exhaust has to exit past the rear wheels unless it was factory built with side pipes( Viper, Cobra, etc). The only othe exceptions are pickups without caps on them. hope this helps.

also cant move the cats from the factory location but most stations dont even look for that, just make sure you have both cats and mufflers. I have seen guys passed with duals dumped before the axle but you have to know the shop owner or inspection guy to pass.
