I say put the cats back on. Then you will pass emissions, your car won't stink, and you will lose 5hp. Just my $0.02.

Fyi, lots of people make a ton of power with emissions still on.

most shops are lazier than you think. in 10 years, i've never had someone crawl under the car to check for cats, whether i've had them or not, and only twice has anyone done any checks beyond the obvious visual stuff (lights, blinkers, horn, etc).

as long as you arent throwing any codes, you will be fine. if you are unsure about a shop and dont want to waste your time/money, just flat out ask them what kind of stuff they plan on doing for the test. just tell them something like the car is a work in progress and you want to be sure you have all the necessary stuff working before you waste yours and their time. (i did that when getting my 88 inspected, and it took a lot of stress off me)

Isn't OBDII on 1996 and newer cars? I could be wrong but that's what I thought.

If you have a 1995 or older in MA do they put the sniffer on and test the exhaust?

95 is obd1 so it has to pass the sniffer. Good luck with that.
