Start with a smaller bike and get experience, then move up to whatever you want.
Don, you are deffinatly correct about throttle response, i got my girl on a ninja 250R now thats response i was confused about when he said he jumpped on a busa that he may have had a little experience i was just thinking about his size and if he took it easy he'd be ok, but.... one quick twist and you could be in trouble...

Sit-on and test ride a Screaming Eagle Harley V-Rod....They are a great performance cruising bike, IMO. Great for a tall person, as well. WJ

Granted I could leave it in 6th and cruise around on a liter bike but id rather have a less expensive/less powerful bike to start with. Again, only issue with that is most of the smaller CC bikes usually have smaller frames. I def wont be jumping into buying a bike as I want something that i will be able to learn on and keep around for a while. I hopefully can start the classes towards my motorcycle license next month and then i will go from there, just wanted to see if there are any small CC bikes I should look at in particular due to my size. I appreciate all the info though and if any other bikes pop into mind def let me know.
Since you have very little experience i would also highly suggest that you take a riders course as mentioned above it's worth the money and you learn on their bikes so if you dump oh well.. the use small bikes and you can get a good feel that way about bikes. You also will receive a small discount on insurance. im just concerned on how you will be on a 600 or 750 because of your size you are a big dude. It's hard to drop a decent amount of cash on something that you may or may not like. i rode dirt bikes for 11 years and my first street bike was a 1991 gsxr 750 i loved it and had fun it was a tad cramped but not to bad just had to stop every half hour oh so to stretch, but my no means are crotch rockets made for comfort.... other bikes id look into would be a 04-06 kawasaki 636, really nice bikes all around and put a set of rear sets to move the pegs a little. but by far the most comfortable and roomy 600 i ever rode has to be the 2006 r6 its a sweet bike but i'm not sure how cheap you'll find one. Good luck and be safe..

Only reason that I havent gone on a test ride is that im still waiting on my motorcycle license. I will have some free time next month to get the classes done, but im not sure if it will be worth it if I cant find the type of bike im looking for. Haha im trying my hardest to be sensible about this and not picking up a liter bike but I might have to go that route if I dont fit on any others.
if your looking for a nice first bike that would fit you i have a 92 zx-11 with a complete top end rebuild for sale.atleast if you did go down you wouldn't be out 10 g's

I say get something like a 650 V-twin. It's the inline-4 bikes that will get you in trouble. You may be outside of the size range for a 250 or 500, but there is no reason a sv650 or something can't be made to accommodate your size.

Think you'd better check out some prices....they're discounting these bikes quite competetively these days. WJ

Do your self a favor, don't buy a liter bike for your first bike. Go to the dealerships and sit on any bike you can. keep sitting on them till you find on that you feel comfortable on. That's the only way you will know.

Regardless of his size he hasn't had the experiance and doesn't have the throttle control for a new liter bike. ****, most 600's are coming out with more power then I'd want to give to a beginner.

Speaking of bikes for big guys. Think I'm gonna get my license get a biginner bike for cheap and then buy one of these, maybe next year.

I've ridden a couple bikes, but that was like 7+ years ago, unlicensed. I'd like a HD but can't afford it and honestly those are for the enthusiests and I just want a nice cruiser. No rocket for me.

Opinions?

Wow the responses have been great and I appreciate all the info listed. Road course training is a definate after I get my motorcycle license. As for the cruiser bikes im not quite sold on them yet, haha but that might change if the jap bikes are too cramped for me when i check them out next weekend. I will definately sit and get a feel for as many bikes as I can, the only thing that sucks is that again i dont have my license yet so im sure that a test ride is out of the question to really get a feel for the bike. I didnt feel too bad on the busa nor the R1 but again as everyone has said a liter bike is very unforgiving and expensive to fix if I dump it. The place im going has pretty much every suzuki/kawasaki/yamaha bike out there so i should get a good idea of what works and what doesnt work. My next question is what mods can be done, comfort wise, to accomodate a larger rider? I noticed someone said you can change the location of the pegs? Anything else? Thanks again guys and all this info def is going to help me to make the right decision.

i didnt read everything, just kinda skimmed... but for us larger guys, some of the more "standard" bikes (hoolagan bikes) kinda fit us better....
like a bandit, hornet, ect..... or SV650/SV1000.... really, you need to see what feels right for you.

remember, bars are adjustible.... and you can buy diffrent bars or rearsets... what you cant easily change is the reach from seat to tank, ect....
you just have to go find something that works for you.... id reccomend a USED bike if its your first bike...... and since the used bike pool is limited.. id just start going to dealers and trying bikes out.. i think its a better idea then getting your heart set on one bike, only to not find it...

I fit alright on the R1 and I heard that the R6 is built on the same frame as the R1, just a smaller engine and tank. Any other suggestions as I havent been able to go and really test drive any and would like any opinions on what bikes have bigger frames. Thanks and any info would be appreciated!
Depends on what type of riding you want to do. If this is your first bike, then you need a smaller one that allows you to learn proper riding techniques and how to act in traffic. A larger, more powerful one will have you concentrating on all the wrong things for starting out, like controlling the bike instead of watching traffic. Your size will have very minimal difference on any bike, but I would find one that allows you to sit comfortable if you are just street riding.

A great starter biker would be a GS500, or a SV650. I recommend the SV. You can do anything with them (track, street, aggressive rides), yet they are very affordable and parts are cheap. And most starter bikes hold thier value, so you wont lose out when you upgrade.

And make sure you get all your gear also. Unless you are planning on trackdays, the cheaper stuff will be fine. Boots, gloves, jacket, and helmet at the very least.

Good luck

Nice yea I looked online at the sv650 and I will def go check one of those out. Plus the pricing isnt too bad on them either. I cant ****** wait to go and check out bikes in general as I have been wanting to ride for a long time and finally with all the finances done for the house im buying in a month I can spend some cash on some toys haha.

i can tell you this...
if you got an SV, you wouldnt regret it.

yes, there are other bikes that will be faster.. other bikes that people will think will be cooler...... but when you ride your bike, you will never feel disappointed..
as far as im concirned, they are the modern HawkGT... a do anything bike that will put a smile on your face nomatter what.. excelent bikes, for beginner and expert alike.

plus they go blat-blat instead of buzz-buzz.

You could always get a 1000 thats lowered and streched, that way you don't have to worry about it wheelie-ing on you.

so you wont learn real throttle control, nor will you learn to corner, and you'll gain nothing but squid habits??

wow.. good suggestion.
