yup thats pretty much what i had but a little bigger. although does that firewire car plu right into the back?? thatd be a hell of alot easier and yes i have a 4 pin fire wire port on the camera, thatll do sound too?
if so ill go to staples tonight and grab one (on the way home)

Small end plugs into camera
Doing this option allows you to capture the video digitally assuming it's a mini-dv camera, it's reliable and you get better quality, Yes audio too. The camera I have when plugged in allows me to control the tape from my computer too, FF RR REC PLAY, ETC.

Well if windows xp is up to date, atleast SP2, then windows movie maker might kick on and windows could find a driver right away. Other wise we'll have to look around.

ULEAD works good and comes with capture drivers for firewire. Heck you're pci card might even come with it when you buy it. Either way don't worry it will work. There is a lot of free software out there that will work. I think the older RCA stuff like that was built with JVC parts, their drivers might work as well.
