that would be a badass Malibu SS IMO... or maybe even a new Monte???

the only thing that remotely resembles the 'camaro is the driveline components.

They are saying thats the camaro drivetrain under the body. Not the actual camaro design.

using some insight, it's good to know its a test mule with the new drivetrain, as this means this drivetrain is swappable to other bodies and etc.

Its a G8. In the mid east its known as the Chevy Lumina SS and in Australia its known as the Holden Commedore. It has the same RWD drive platform that the Camaro is going to be on. Here is a pic of the G8 from the Nov 2007 car and driver magazine.

The day the Camaro comes out as a 4door sedan will be a sad day indeed...

The Camaro won't be four door. Its just that the Camaro and the G8 will be on the zeta platform which is GM's new rear wheel drive platform. So as far as anything goes, the Camaro is still a two door.

Its still gonna look similiar to the photos we've seen about the 09 camaro. The body isnt the same. That is a holden commodore body testing the camaro drivetrain. They have to do emissions testing and stuff too. Man though now that i look at the car. I would totally dig a 500hp manual trans car like that. They should sell a holden commodore as like a Nova or some chevy icon name with the v8 and rear drive. I think chevy should sell something that has ***** and maybe a big backseat-4doors as a compliment to the camaro and vette.

same platform?

so a 2door sports car has the same wheel base as a 4door sedan? that going to make one awesome handling car!

lol

That body style is far better than the one the Camaro is coming out with!!

Of course.... IMHO!

G8 will be a Badass 4 door! I am pushing for the G/F to get one so I can ProCharge it!!!

I agree, but what makes you think that there's even a hint that the Camaro could ever be a 4 door?
Certainly the pics above are merely claimed to be of a test mule, test mule bodies are often just disguises to hide the real deal.

Not sure if you know it but this is nothing new, sport coupes (though not necessarily sports cars, but then again the Camaro is not really a sports car either) and 4 door sedans have been sharing platforms for YEARS now. 2 door and 4 door 3 series BMWs share the same platform and I think the Z4s are built off of it as well (the Z3 was based on the 3 series of the day as well). The Cadillac Eldorado and Seville were on the same platform at one point. Old Novas and even Chevelle 2 doors, 4 doors AND wagons shared platforms etc.
As for wheelbases and handling, a Corvette C5/C6 actually has a longer wheelbase than an earlier Hyundai Elantra 4 door yet the Corvette still handles ok.
Also, having the same platform doesn't necessarily mean sharing the same wheelbase as well.

Exactly, it's all about the disguise.
I remember seeing pics of that car, it looked like an early 4th gen Camaro with a funky wheelbase and the gas cap was right behind the driver's side door.

We will have to get used to referring to the Camaro as the "Z body" rather than the F body.

The G8 is one sharp looking sedan. GM is starting to crank out some really nice cars, if only they can keep their heads above water long enough to turn the tide.

Shared platforms are essential to these cars being viable. This is the same approach used by Chrysler for the 300, Magnum, Charger and soon the Challenger.

Camaro, Impala, CTS and G8 are all on the new Zeta platform. Just different shells. Alot of old cars had options for 4 doors. Remember the Chevelle(malibu) came in 4 door.
