it is. you get surcharged for pretty much any offense they can write on a ticket. ive gotten tickets for tinted tail light shades in my old car, as well as no front plate. and of course an altered exhaust. all of them were surchargable offenses

I believe it is a surcharge...I didn't know that expired stickers were either but they are.

Was this in Peabody? Guess I need to avoid that. Was it late at night or anything or during the day?

Ive been through peabody, its reletivly quiet but who knows.

But a LM even be it a ver. 2 with no cats. I wouldnt expect anything less. What saves my *** in the Corsa is that I put high flow cats on it. From a stop its MAYBE 2-3 Db louder then stock and I can short shift to keep it there

Anything except parking tickets seems to be a surcharge here! I got a surcharge for an expired inspection sticker one year!

damn. No it didnt happen in peabody! It was in Malden about 6 blocks from my house. I know a couple cops from here so I can get it taken care of, but dont like to ask if its not surchargable you know. I could always fight it, and most likely win, but you never know. I just beat a speeding ticket 2 weeks ago. Cop lost his copy of my citation so I won that one. Oh well lifes a bitch!!!

exhaust is not a surchargable event, neither is tint.....inspection stickers are because it is a "safety" issue, i have dealt with all three of these and am positive that it is not...like someone said though, appeal it and ask for a db reading which im sure he didnt take and bring proof that the exhaust is 50 state legal, i think slp provides that with the purchase

So according to Mass. motor vehicle laws, "altered exhaust" is just another way of saying "exhaust that is too loud"?? Or are you worse than "the land of fruits and nuts" (Cali) and a cop can ticket you for ANY aftermarket, otherwise 50 state legal, catback system, no matter HOW quiet?? (Think SLP dual/dual here)

Yup been there man. A altered exhaust is a surchargeable offense. Like they said ask for the DB readings.
