haha my state NC doesnt care about a front license plate(im glad too cause that is ugly). we started nascar so the cops could care less about seeing your plate number from the front. instead they do a big 180 and get it from the back and have fun while doing it.

Why not just get the fold away front plate bracket from Summitt. I've seen it on someone's Z on here. I mean rather than paying tickets or worrying about it. Just my two cents.

The only real purpose the front plate serves is as a nice target for the cops to hit with their laser. I'm going without it as long as I can, I've been warned twice but no tickets.

Psst dont tell anyone I told you, but I dont need the plate to hit the laser gun off of... Also for the record radar detectors do work, they tell you when to get your registration, insurance, and drivers license ready LOL.

Back on topic I feel your pain main. kansas doesnt have front plates and it does crowd up the front end of the vehicle, but if the law is on the books it should be heeded to. FWIW i dont give speeding tickets till 11 over the posted speed limit. It gives the benefit of the doubt to the driver. We also do not have the mysterious ticket quota, I cant speak for all departments country wide, all I can tell ya is what NHTSA reports.

I have stainless steel Piano hinge here that I keep getting tempted to use as a license plate bracket so when the car is moving the plate folds under the nose..
Then when you stop it drops back down

Thanks Eric, I will keep that on the down-low

It was my understanding that the license plate provides the best reflecting surface to get an accurate reading. As for radar detectors, I was wondering how useful they could really be, since as I understand it the radar is not on continuously but rather just turned on once the car is in the crosshairs, so that by the time the radar detector goes off your speed has already been recorded. Is that pretty much right?

my uncle is retired ct state trooper, he told me they look for stupid stuff like front plates just to have a reason to pull you over because 90% of nice cars with young kids either have no license, insurance, or other. so thats why they nit pick

DarkJuggalo - Yea that's what I figured and I expected to get pulled for the tint or the front LP, but never expected to actually get the ticket for it! I've known so many people to get pulled for it multiple times but not actually get the ticket...O well!

Man have I been fortunate. I have moved from Texas to Michigan, to PA and none of those states require front plates. The five years I lived in Shreveport I never changed my registration to LA from TX so I got away with it there also.

Okay texas does require a plate but I never put one on. Forgot about that

I've been pulled over 3 times for no front plate and will not mount it. law or not it is stupid I agree. Me not having a front plate does not cause potential harm on other drivers. They want a front plate only so they gave something to put the darn radar gun on.

So after the countless times I've been pulled over for retarded stuff in VA I decided for my daily driver to get this plate last summer

No offense to Steve in Philly Oh and being from PA.....they dont have property tax on cars like the communist va state. But we did pay school tax on the house, township tax and the inspections were $70 when I left in 2001. I only got pulled over once all the years I drove up there. I come down here and was pulled over shortly after I got the TA...never pulled over in the BRIGHT RED firebird with FLAMES that I drove for most of the year. Now people tell me its the flames that gets me pulled over now

Basically ya. I mainly use radar not laser, we have a badass system in our cars the Stalker DSR 2, heres the link http://www.stalkerradar.com/law_2x.shtml. You cannot use laser while moving you need to be stationary, our traffic units use them.

As for why some police officers write tickets for little things, I really cant tell ya.

That's not asking for trouble or anything....

I can't wait to see when one them pulls you over and nails you for every infraction they can, tows your car, and then you come on here and bitch about how much of a dick the officer was to you when "You were polite and gave them no reason to be a jerk".

And by the way, "retarded stuff" or not, it is still the law and is most likely there for a reason. And if you don't think the reason is legit, rather than bitching about it, why not get a ton of people who feel the same, write to someone important, and try to make something happen. Getting a plate like that is retarded. What, do you think it's going to hurt their feelings or something? No, it's just going to make them smile when they see it because now they won't feel bad about giving you a ticket for "retarded stuff".

Yea that is a little ridiculous right there...I wouldn't go far as to put that on my plates, or even say that all cops suck! I'd have to agree with Pewter, I'd love to see your post after a cop does every thing he can do to make you miserable! Also I wonder if you will have that car parked out front of your house if you call 911 someday because a burglar breaks into your house to steal everything. I'd park that car in the garage if I were you! Just a thought...

I was always told the reason for the front plate is a flat surface to bounce a laser signal off of. just my .02
