Default 2008 sucks!!!!!

Well this year just sucks so far for me,

Friday afternoon my father got rushed to the hospital (Yale) and that we needed to get there quickly.
A little background... my dad a few years back ad colon cancer and has had ALOT of complications from it and his quality of life has just sucked...
then a couple of weeks ago he was diagnosed with COPD and put on oxygen, and his doctor told him that they saw a mass in his lung but were not sure what it was. Well it turns out it was a blood clot, and this seemed to trigger a bunch of issues that stacked up, this clot destroyed his kidneys, and his colon became blocked and distended (not caused by the clot as i understand it) but with his colon having issues bacteria was getting into his blood. My father was told he needed to have surgery to remove his colon and he would have "the bag" and he absolutly refused, doctors told us and him that he would die with out this surgery. He is also at this point on a respirator and some other tubes and what not. The doctors were hoping to get some of his other issues fixed and let him see that he was getting better in hopes of getting him to change his mind about the surgery. and he actually had a good day on sunday as some things improved... then i got the call tuesday morning that i needed to get to the hospital NOW as he has turned for the worse... and the decision was made to pull him off the respirator and let him go...we were told this would go quickly...well it took 2 1/2 hours and let me tell you this is a very hard thing to witness and i hope nobody ever has to go through this process as it is one i will never forget....

So to all my friends who have been calling over the last several days and getting the voice mail please understand i wasnt blowing you off i just wasnt in the mood to talk with this situation as it was, and also thanks to those who have offered support i really appreciate it it means alot

sorry for the long rant but i needed to get this off my chest, life is too short and if you have differences with a family member make peace with them as it is usually just bullshit in the end and not worth it

Rob

Very sorry for your loss. I hear you about mending relationships, I didn't speak to my father for ten years but we talk now.

I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. I know that feeling all to well, we had to let my dad go a few years ago from cancer. I really dont know what the hell happens to us when we die, i just know it had to be a better place. Anything was better then living everyday is severe pain and to a degree i was happy when he passed so he would no longer have to suffer anymore. Sounds like your dad was in the same situation and i am sure he is in a better place as well.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Chef. I am still young (only 19) and have witnessed something very similar with my grandfather last year. It was a day I will never forget. They are all in a better place now.

I am sorry to hear that Chef. I am very close with my family and I would have a tough time handling that myself. I recently lost both my remaining grandparents and I know what you mean about losing the quality of life near the end. He's in a better place, my condelences to you and the family.
